I could speculate on what I think is happening with this unit, but there's not much point until I can get the thing apart and see for sure. I just want to find out whether the issue could have been fixed internally rather than making it into a marketing thing.

I don't care, I'm just curious as to what would be doing the cyclic ripple.

Nippon Chemi-Con KY. The ones that aren't NCC KY or KZE electrolytics are either Sanyo electrolytics or NCC polymers. There's a couple polymers I can't ID... from top to bottom they're marked DR, 16V, 470, F17. Blue color stripe on top.

As you can guess, I have the cover off it now. This'll be an interesting review... there is literally no room for caps on the secondary. There are a few small NCC's. The VRM's take up a lot of space in there.

I'll save the rest of my thoughts for the review itself.

              Sanyo electrolytics...!?!

OMG! Elizabeth! <grasps chest, staggers> It's the big one...

              {If I have to explain it, it's not funny.}

This has to be a Golden Sample or something.
No way those cheap bstrds will continue with Sanyo.

There are only two of them in there, on the modular cable PCB. Most of the caps are NCC... only the two Sanyos and the two unidentified polymers are not (excluding the AC transient filter caps).

This is probably the first time I've ever seen Sanyo in a review unit that I didn't put in there afterward, come to think of it.

Suncon's been making Sanyo's caps forever. Search the forum for the 2 names. Pick results by threads instead of posts and get yerself an edumication.

Suncon used to be a Sanyo Company and made all Sanyo's lytics.
All that happened is the people at Suncon bought their company from Sanyo and they intend to put their own name one them.
Right now they are making both Suncon and Sanyo marked caps but they are dropping the Sanyo markings entirely in 2010 sometime.
                        .

Thing is there's a bazillion counterfeit Sanyos in the market right now so I have to wonder if Antec,,,,

What stops us from soldering capacitors onto the ends of our power supply cables? Would I be more l33t if I used a 3300uF cap instead of a 2200uF cap?

Trouble shooting an A2251, it is giving me the behavior that all three USB jacks except the DFU port are reading 5.18V .24A, the DFU port draws no current.

Tried swapping that CD3217 from a donor, that changed to DFU port same behavior the adjacent USB port is now boot cycling, other side un effected.

Hindsight probably should have checked the diode drops first.

I removed L8100 to confirm that the PP1v1_S3 rail was "shorted" It reads about 2.4ohm and .009V on diode drop. The HighSide Low Side FETS before L8100 appear to be fine. Proper diode...

Hello guys, Asus G512LI, came with 3.3V drop down immediately .... 5V was stable ... after search and work found that +3VSUS_MUX is the issue (caused by U4701A TUSB1146RNQR) , left off the ic .. 3.3V came up again stable ... after power on laptop turn on for 3 seconds and power off ... VCCcore raise 0.9V for 1.5 seconds and drop down all other voltages do same thing ... Ram voltage , Gpu voltages, concerning VCCGT 0V all the time

                                            Drop-in replacement for STR-W6052S?
                                            by tfm
The main board of this LG washing and drying machine was damaged due to overvoltage. It is rated for 127V and was powered on 380V.

Inicial visual inspection revealed that only some components at the input of the SMPS were damaged:

Ironically, both fuses are intact. Probably the X2 cap and the bridge are also damaged. The whole board is immersed in an epoxy resin. I am removing it so I get access to the components.

The SMPS is built around an STR-W6052S, which is discontinued and I can't get a replacement....

                                            Hello,

While trying to fix an SMPS, I hear a ticking sound.
I've checked all capacitors, but none seem to be shorted.

I then suspected an issue with the flyback transformer which has 3 leads on the primary (used in a push-pull configuration ?) and one of them, which is always connected to GND has a resistance reading in the order of Mega ohms with any of the other 2 leads on the primary.

But I thought let's check the MOSFETs first::

The circuit also contains a PFC circuit, controlled by a UCC3818D (D stands for the SMD version),...

How low can germanium voltage drop be acceptable?
                                            by Crystaleyes
Just a question regarding the technical characteristics of Germanium:

I have four vintage germanium AD 161 & 162 transistors which all read just under 100mV voltage drop yet come up as fine on the component tester, so I'm wondering how low can this go with germanium devices and still be ok?

Only asking as I've never seen such a low volt drop...

The ones which are sold in the shops here read around 400mV, so I am assuming these are silicon remakes?
