PURELan 24 Port Switch with Burst Caps.

    Hi,

just looking for a little assistance.

I have a 24 Port PURELan switch, it recently died (no power) i opened the device up to find burst capacitors, Ive been exposed to this issue many times before dealing with Dell desktops.

I am looking to replace the capacitors on the switch but i am a bit unsure as to what type/version is required.

The affected caps are 2200чF 6.3v
Im afraid thats the only info i can give.

I am looking to purchase the caps from maplin.

If anyone could point out if there is any suitable replacements on this page:
    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?...6v&menul1=1697
    it would be very helpful

I have uploaded an image of the device below

    Any help appreciated,

    Kind Regards,

    M

The device looks like it was not breathing properly and overheated around the power section in your picture.
The exact same parts or a replacement of the same grade would be acceptable but the switch should be kept cooler.
I often walk into an office and see this kind of stuff all buried under things in a storage closet, forgotten and hot, until they malfunction.

Re: PURELan 24 Port Switch with Burst Caps.

I can't see in photo clearly but I can tell they are Nichicon HN or HM series.
      - The (M) is just the tolerance, not part of the series name.
They were defective from about 2002 to 2004, or 2005.

So far as original ratings go:

      If those are HN:
      2200uF 6.3v 10x16mm - ESR=.011 - Ripple=2280
      2200uF 6.3v 10x20mm - ESR=.010 - Ripple=2900

      If those are HM:
      2200uF 6.3v 8x20mm - ESR=.016 - Ripple=1950
      2200uF 6.3v 10x16mm - ESR=.018 - Ripple=2000
      2200uF 6.3v 10x20mm - ESR=.013 - Ripple=2550

The ones marked HD should not need replaced unless heat or the other caps going bad took them out.

sorry, I'm new to badcaps. By 'RS' i assume you mean radioshack?

Im in scotland unfortunately we dont have any radioshacks, we usualy just go to maplin.

would anyone be able to confirm if this would be suitable?

If you are in the US there is Digikey.
They also have FM and FC.

Re: PURELan 24 Port Switch with Burst Caps.

                          Sorry, missed 'Scotland' up above.

                          Those KY series are:
                          10x25mm - ESR=.042 - Ripple=1650

Don't forget to look at the diameter.
10mm may not fit where an 8mm was.
10mm have 5mm lead spacing and 8mm has 3.5mm lead spacing. (Usually)
                          -
If height matters (like to put the top back on the box) then you should look at that too.

                          In comparing:
For ESR smaller values is better
For Ripple larger values is better

KY are not as good a grade as the originals.
Might work but I would look for better.

If you are going with RS then FM is better grade than FC.

If this is a power supply then replacing the failed capacitors should easily solve the problem.

Power supplies with their normal PCBs are very easy to recap even with some standard solder wick and a weaker soldering iron, since they are not multi-layer.

I know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.

For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

Poly VVX-250 VOIP POE problem not booting fix
                                    by CapLeaker
I've got a bunch of Poly VVX-250 VOIP phones that work fine as kind as long as they are plugged into the wall wart. Recently I got around to install a couple of TP-Link 5 port POE switches that are added to the existing plain Jane 24 port unmanaged switch. Great!!! Finally I am able to ditch the wall warts from these phones making more space on the desk, plus I am gaining some badly needed power outlets. So I thought.

Plugged in the first VVX-250 into the POE switch, booted up no problem. Plugged in the other Poly phones and they start to boot anywhere from 5 to 15 seconds,...

                                    Heathkit IO-4205 Power Supply Caps
                                    by eryjus
                                    Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

                                    Micro Momentary Push Switch?
                                    by Natob82
Great to be here! I'm a newbie here trying to find a "micro", momentary push switch to repair a Sony "clamshell" video walkman. This micro switch has long since discontinued by Sony, however I hope there are third-party switches of the same size and functionality that I might be able to source to play the same role. The purpose of this switch is to tell the video walkman that the user has activated the mechanical tape eject button, turning that physical action into an electronic signal that tells the tape transport mechanism to open so one can load or eject a video tape. NEC TurboExpress On/Off Power Switch Replacement Help
                                    by grimacelord
                                    Hello,

I've been working on a NEC TurboExpress and I accidentally got the plastic inside the power ON/OFF switch too hot while doing other repairs and melted it. At first, it would still power on when sliding the switch, but you had to really press inward while sliding to get it to work.

I removed the switch component and tried to gently melt the plastic back so it would work more reliably and all I managed to do was make it worse.

I need to find a replacement On/OFF switch for this, but having some trouble figuring out which kind of switch I need....
