Re: Replacing 4 diodes with a bridge
According to a post int he following thread, it can be calibrated.Look at the shot above that one. 692uF on a 1000uF Cap
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/equip...ay-gadget.html

Here's another one from a different seller... So am I correct in thinking the ESR resolution is good up to 0.010 Ohms (The correct ESR for that 10V 1000uF Rubycon MCZ should be 0.011 Ohms). If so, then this device is all you need for testing caps and it only cost $20.Leave a comment:

This is pretty good resolution for such an inexpensive device, no?Leave a comment:

Re: Replacing 4 diodes with a bridge
If I got that, first thing I'd do is get some socket-strips and solder then on.I'm slightly ashamed to ask
, but what do you think of this

Re: Replacing 4 diodes with a bridge
Not sure what your plans for that PSU are Pentium4, but it appears to be very similar (although slightly cheaper judging from the heatsinks) to this one I rebuilt a while back if you want some ideas.

Re: Replacing 4 diodes with a bridge
Yeah hope it works! But if it comes to that then I should give it a shot
Some cap names make me laugh....one of the caps is "Sapcon"

Re: Replacing 4 diodes with a bridge
Oh no wonder ... a noname capacitor.
It looks like this has a two-transistor 5vsb, so if you don't get it fixed with new caps, then you could do the smps chip mod. (Like the VIPer22 or DM311)Leave a comment:

Re: Replacing 4 diodes with a bridge
It can be useful, plus it detects ESR up to 40 ohms compared to 20. I saw one (only slightly bulging CapXon) hit 26.6 ESR!!!!
No it wasn't working before. But the start up cap is a Ricon so it's probably toast and needs to be replaced

Thats not good!
Was it working before you did the mods to it?Leave a comment:

I elected to get the ESR60 because I didn't think the audible alerts would be useful (it's £20 extra), but do you find them useful?Leave a comment:

Re: Replacing 4 diodes with a bridge
Isn't it awesome?
I saw tom66 had the ESR60 so I bought the newer version. I found one on ebay, it's ~$128 (97€) shipped but worth it!

Man that capacitance/ESR gadget is exactly what I'm looking for
! Where can I get one of these? How much does it cost?

Re: Replacing 4 diodes with a bridge
Yeah! Here is the before and after, and a pic of a typical Chinese cap lying about the specs! I think maybe some of the little caps on the 5VSB are bad because this thing has no signs of life. I will work on it more on the 31st and hopefully get it goingAttached Filesif you find these attachements useful please consider making a small donation to the site

Re: Replacing 4 diodes with a bridge
Mind if you could get us a pic or two of the final job (when the bridge-rectifier arrives)?

Re: Replacing 4 diodes with a bridge
Thank you ben7!!!
It's a Sun Pro...I already added an X cap, replaced the 220uF input caps with 470uF, and replaced the fake Y caps with real ones, so the input will be in good shape

by Ross KohlerHi,
I'm learning about motherboard repair and I believe I've traced the issue down for the South Bridge on the particular motherboard I'm working on. My path of concluding that:
- There's no sign of any attempt to power on when pushing the power button.
- No PSON signal is reaching the 24-pin ATX connector.
- The Super IO chip is receiving the PS_SWITCH signal from the power button and is relaying this signal back to the South Bridge.
- The Super IO is not receiving the S_SLPS#_R signal back from the South Bridge
- If I pull the Super IO S_SLPS#_R pin... -
by DvsrHi. I need help from wiser guys. I am amateur in electronics and can't figure this out by myself.
I bought faulty speakers, M-Audio AV40's. Other speaker has all the electronics in it and the other speaker is just passive one powered by the other speaker's amp. Original problem with the speakers was loud buzzing. I figured out that there is something wrong with the capacitors. I went ahead and replaced every electrolytic capacitor on the PCB. The caps are good quality and have the same values as the original ones.
After replacing the caps I started testing out the speaker. It seemed...4 Photos-

by _AcE_I have two of these soundbars, both with the exact same issue. The soundbars were hit by lightning and no longer power on. The PSU does not output any voltage on the DC side. When plugged into mains, the DC output is a stone-cold 0.0 volts. The AC side of the PSU seems to be functioning correctly (as far as I can tell). When checking the plugged-in PSU with my thermal camera, the OB5269CP PWM controller (U1) and the two resistors (R12 and R13) pulse on and off. These run to the positive DC side of the bridge rectifier (among other components along the way).

by caspianDear members,
I have a linear variable power supply with unknown brand name that I used for voltage injection.
Then it failed. I discovered that its transistors (Q1 and Q2) are shorted.
In addition, I discovered that its zener diodes are defective.
I can replace the burned transistors.
But I do not know the model of the zener diodes. the model number is not marked on the zener diodes.
Therefore, I cannot replace the zener diodes.
I do not want to test the zener diodes in a test circuit to discover their model or value.
