Re: ESR of general purpose caps

It probably varies between brands and series. I often use KOME 2200uF/16V (10mm) caps - my ESR meter shows 0.1ohm (the lowest it can) on them. I also have some Yageo 2200uF/16V caps (they came by a mistake as I ordered the KOME ones) - they're too wide (13mm) and the ESR is also worse - meter shows 0.1 but jumps to 0.3 sometimes.

well this bulging SH measured 5.5 after desoldering and the ESR slowly climbed to finally 11 after cooling down. I checked the meter with various reference caps in case it was defect but it measured them fine.

5.5 is really bad (not speaking about that 11...) - should be less than 0.5.

thats good then. the computer was a work computer which was having a network problem one day, then the next day it bluescreened complaining about tcpip.sys i was wondering if the problem would show up again and be in fact a network card problem.

              its this chieftec psu
              https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1153&

i replaced with fortron bluestorm 500w

the other caps in the psu test fine. i have another 2 of these chieftec psus i will check out and recap.

                here's another teapo sh 01/03 105oC
same psu type. this time in parents computer.
symptoms : computer does not play any dvd especially land rover demonstration dvd . occasionally computer does not start first time.

dad learns how to test caps achieving world record contender of 9.0 ohm!!!!!

cap replaced with panasonic fc 1000 16v.
dvd exchanged with samsung toshiba pending tests

i have recapped one of these psu with rubycon mcz but i did not like the results. multimeter was showing more voltage fluctuations than before. seems better just to replace this cap using fc or similar.

Yep, the NCZ have rela ylow esr. Not shure of the regulation & control chain like this. The lower ESR will increase the possibility of oscilation too. Any way, most PSu`s i recaped with them are doing fine despite all that.

Seasonic B12 BC-550 – barely 2 years old and with BAD CAPS already!
                    by momaka
I know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.

For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

Hey guys just wondering as to the purpose of these caps 560 but they seem to be shorted .. is it linked with the super low impedance of the CPU/GPU or do I have a short to search for ??.. the short is still there when caps have been removed.. sorry still learning really 😞.

Identifying caps on an old Zoom 9000
                    by Paxman_Swede
                    Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

I have studied the board and...

Sony RCD-W3 Deck A (Playback only) not playing CDs (Disk Error) repair
                    by goodpsusearch
Recently I was given for free a Sony RCD-W3 with the following symptoms, CD recorder drive reads CDs without any issues (haven't tested recording function yet because I don't intend to burn CDs on that machine) but the reader drive shows disc error after some seconds of it trying to read CD. Tried both CD-Rs and commercial audio CDs with same results.

First thing to do was to clean the lens but that didn't change anything. Googling the issue revealed that this is a common issue on several Sony CD recorder machines and the culprit is SMD electrolytic caps located on the PCB bellow...

Help with switching power supply caps
                    by captain150
I'm trying to repair two old VCRs, they both have bad caps. One has leaky ones, the other would barely run until I subbed in some caps from another power supply I had laying around (though they are the wrong values). This vcr works for an hour or two, but then the power supply starts whining and the picture gets lines in it. I didn't replace all the secondary caps, so another voltage might still be problematic, or the values I used are too far off.
I've been on mouser and digikey but the options are a bit overwhelming. I just need some new ones that will work. They don't need to be top quality,...
