Are L&C same as LC- Power?

    Hi all.

I`v read some about the bad L&C PSU`S. In Germany there are many Locations who offeres LC-Power PSU`S. At the moment i think those LC-Power are not the best ones, but at least the protection circuits seems to work properly, and ok ift the 550w unit delivers only 350w this will not hurt for most systems. So i bought one of those PSU`S. Normaly i only use FSP, Enermax or Seasonic.
Now it would be interesting if those L&C are the same manufacturer like LC-Power. In that case, i think i replace it with an Fortron FSP 350-60THA-P (i have two of them laying around) Price for 550w LC-Power unit about 25 to 35€.

Re: Are L&C same as LC- Power?

L&C is one of the Deer brands, which also include Allied, Codegen, Austin, L&C, Logic, Hyena, Eagle, Foxconn, Foxlink, Hercules, Realpower, Turbolink (most), Apex (maybe), PowerUp, US-Can. But LC-Power may be a different company because http://terasan.info/dengen/no080/index.html shows pictures of a 450W Evergreen Silent King LW-6450 PSU that looks very similar on the outside to the LC-6550, and the UL registration number, E181356 (www.ul.com), indicates that it was made by SHENZHEN CHI YUAN INDUSTRIAL CO LTD (Huntkey? Nextwave). PSUs with 120mm fans can use smaller heatsinks than PSUs of similar power ratings but with smaller fans.

OTOH the website also shows this 400W model: http://terasan.info/dengen/no066_3/index.html, also with the same UL number, that looks less substantial, at least in its heatsinks (smaller than even the 350W model).

Can you post pictures of the interior?

Re: Are L&C same as LC- Power?

THX for answer, at the moment i can`t make picture, that is not my system. I build that system for a friend, but as soon i will see him i will make some pictures. First of all i am glad to hear that those isn`t the same manufacturer. I know that several of the LC-Powe units had benn failed soon, but in all cases the protection circuit worked, and no damage to the system.
So in my opinion its similar to Seasonic`s oem PSU`s. I have several of them which are either doa or died after several days. In the other case the seasonics ar ok, sure not pefect.

Re: Are L&C same as LC- Power?

LC- power supplies are commonly known to be made by L&C, but larrymoencurly (I'm scared of his avatar) is right in his thing.

        I have one L&C power supply model number, LC-B450 E (also LC-B450E).

Take note of the UL file number and post it. The UL file number for L&C power supplies I saw are E164554.

Is the LC- power supply lightweight and has a casing that is made out of something like sheet metal?

Re: Are L&C same as LC- Power?

Typical crap. They post an insanely high 5v rail to get the total up to 450 watt or wherever. AFAIK, no system can draw that much on 5v so that claim is unverifiable without testing equipment.

Re: Are L&C same as LC- Power?

The casing for L&C power supplies are made out of sheet metal, or a thin metal. The L&C LC-B450 E 450W power supply I have is slightly bent on the bottom. It took very little effort to just bend the metal of the L&C casing.

That would be safe to use, to me it looks well-built.

It gets safe-to-use certification from me.

it has panasonic primary caps, what a suprise. I saw one of those 550's in a shop window here today, i forget the price but it was something like just under 50 euro. i would like to see the caps on the other side, i can identify a teapo but no more than that.

it doesnt look too bad although the heatsinks are quite poor. you would not be getting a 550w like you expected but it is not crap. anyway a decent 550 would be in the region of 120 euro here.

Tha is exactly my opinion on that. Most important for me if a psu is safe. If a new AMD 64 system would be burned nothing is gained. And of course, 550w for 35€ could not be archieved at the moment. But for an normal AMD 64 system 350w is realy a lot more power than needed.

With a 120mm fan, those small heatsinks may be OK because even 120mm Seasonics in this power range have heatsinks that don't seem to be much bigger.

                              Hi Folks,

Just wanted to clear up a misunderstanding of mine (or what I expect is one). Isn't the 12V rail from the 24 pin, EPS and PCIE separated? IE if I put a power resistor on the ATX 12V pin that is not going to load, thus tell me if the EPS or PCIE rails are fine?

I was recently watching ArIs from Hardware Busters video on how to properly test ATX PSUs without using 5 figure Croma substations.

The PCB adapter he used breaks out the 12, 5 and 3.3V pins from the 24 pin and gives you banana plugs to connect to. That is a bit useless is it not? Aren't...

                              Hi there,
a friend of mine gave me a BeQuiet Dark Power Pro P10 550W PSU.

The problem: The PSU simply switched off during operation and never came back on.

                              My observations / measurements:

I opened the housing and checked for obvious damage -> negative. Visually, everything seems fine.

                              Lowcost power supply tester (China):
No result. The power supply does not turn on and the tester keeps off

Next, I measured the 5V standby line (pin 4) on the ATX connector.
                              Result: Not present (!).

                              Obviously this seems...

Hello again, this might be a bit of a far-fetched question, but is it possible to modify a 36v and a 48v power supplies to output 12v? Both power supplies appear to use the same topology, they both also have a dedicated 12v winding wired to the control chips, meaning that as soon as i change it so the main output is 12v, then the dedicated windings will not be able to output 12v, meaning it will not start up. However, if i were to then take the main output and tie it to where the dedicated 12v output would go, then it should be able to run fine?

Anyway here is a quick overview of...

When plugged into the PC, the PSUs are able to power the LEDs inside the motherboard (the standby 5v circuit I suppose?) But as soon as the power button is hit, the PSU powers on for a split second, then there is a (relay?) click and the PSU shuts off. Hitting power does nothing after unless the power is removed and then turned on again.

So far, I have repurposed server PSUs (all hot swap) for the following:
                              • Portable multi-purpose test set with dual channel variable PSU
                              • Variable frequency/voltage electrically isolated pure sinewave AC inverter
                              • Low noise quad channel 0-600V DC PSU using UPS transformers with an inverter based on a trailing edge dimmer

If you have repurposed at least one server PSU, please let me know what your application is.
