SkyHawk (often DEER inside, their older ATX PSUs are even something worse)
EuroCase/Codegen (not sure about the newer ones but look here https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=831)

it would be good to define why they are junk. for instance :

          unsafe/badcaps
          safe/badcaps
          quality/badcaps

          or whatever

at least it would be good to define whether they are a hazard to other components in the computer when they blow.

The original Ultra X-Connect. Unsafe - parts may blow up when overloaded rather than shut itself down like it's supposed to. Most of the modular cables don't latch to the PSU (just friction fit) so there is a danger of loosening/falling out from thermal cycling. RMA terms are "interesting". Packaged by a member of the marketing group in which Tiger Direct is a key player - 'nuff said.

BTW, L&C hides under lots of brands. Look for LCA, LCB etc. as part of the model number.

I remember reading somewhere that the original X-Connect was a relabelled, beautified, modularised PowMax. What's wrong with TigerDirect?

Taiwan Youngyear actually - Powmax was reselling them for a time though, automatically making them about the best PSU's Powmax ever offered

Most Ultras are OEM Wintech... better quality. I've spotted a PSU at the Terasan site though which traces to Wintech yet has a Seventeam PCB. Wonder what the connection is.

Re: and a list of known junk power supplies

Tiger Direct has had a sleazy rep from way back. Recently had to be forced under court order to pay up on numerous outstanding rebates.
. Foisting the X-Connect onto an unsuspecting public certainly didn't polish their rep up any...
. I was under the impression that the X-C was OEM by Powmax for awhile myself, but it turned out to be Youngyear instead. Powmax nee Leadman was one of the better PSU brands way back in the day of the AT to ATX transition era, how far the great often fall... As far as Youngyear, I've not seen much from them that inspires any confidence. I think a lot of Aspire branded PSUs are also OEM from YoungYear.

Aspire are Young Year, yes. I'll be building a box for a friend with a 500w Aspire soon, we'll see how that turns out. Maybe I'll recommend an Ultra (not X-C 1 of course) because iirc PC Power and Cooling's high watt PSUs are made by Wintech.

The MGE seems out of place here.

I know most are Wintech or Seventeam, which I have no issue with what-so-ever. But the Vigor does look a tad familiar. Is that a Youngyear? If so, I can understand the caution.

Skyhawk is a lot like Foxconn and Raidmax. They build a case and include the absolute worse PSU (typically a Deer.) But when they sell a PSU separately, it's good.

I know a lot of the Skyhawks (acutally UL under Skyhawk too) are fairly decent quality and they OEM for a lot of the companies they also make cases for (Kingwin, CompUSA, etc.) Unfortunately, they suffer the same problem as early Thermaltakes: Poor load balancing for a modern system. Really high on the 5V, really low on the 12V. Crossloads easily. Yadda, yadda, yadda. Sad really. Maybe in a couple more years they'll get their act together.

What do you guys think about Allieds? Searching on the forums reveals bad Power supplies, but online at some sites mention good ones.

Allied is another Deer owned brand, along with L&C.
