Zombie Samsung UN55NU6900F dead / no standby voltage - randomly came to life after hours of troubleshooting then died
    by tvguy12012012120
This is my first attempt at troubleshooting a board like this, I know I could just buy a new board but I'm curious to figure out how this works. I've been testing different components in the evenings this week and I think the problem is with the IC failing to start up for some reason. When the board is plugged in there is no standby voltage.

Then today it randomly sprung to life like a zombie but shortly died thereafter. I have no idea why it would have done that and its the first time I've seen it running. I discharged capacitors on the board last night, then it was sitting today....

    Tektronix 422 with No Power
    by KYBOSH
Picked up a Tektronix type 422 oscilloscope locally for a few bucks last year.
It wouldnt power on at all so I stowed it away under my bench for later testing.
Today I remembered it was down there and pulled it out to see what was what.

I checked for continuity and everything checked out.
There was a burned smell and a resistor was replaced with a temporary replacement (see yellow box in picture).
The burned smell is very pungent/acidic and I am not familiar with these vintage electronics to know whether I am smelling the remains of the replaced resistor or...

    101 Electronics Question...
    by SolomonMan
    All,
I am troubleshooting a automotive vehicle I have owned since it was new in Sept 2006 (2007 Saturn Ion - 2 /2.2L/5 Speed).

I believe, I may have a bad Body Control Module as all the symptons/scenarios/Wiring Checks have pointed to that issue. Typically the PCM/BCM/ECM failures are rare...but this one has me thinking otherwise...Things started with Random Power Lock Actuating, then Head Lamps failed (low Beam first/then High Beams - about a year apart in failure), and finally the Cruise Control has recently stopped functioning (no light on steering column). There is a parasitic...

Sony TA-F511 hifi amplifier: mysterious DC offset on speaker out after short
    by klausman
So I was repairing/cleaning a Sony TA-F511 (service manual available on Elektrotanya, or I can attach it here). Sony had smeared gobs and gobs of heatsink compound all over the heatsink, and it had gathered a lot of dirt (and become rock hard), so I cleaned it all and replaced it with silpads. Except, like the [expletive] idiot that I am, I forgot the silpad on one of the power transistors, Q610, 2SC3907, the NPN transistor of the right channel.

When I turned the amp on, there was that dreaded electric sparking buzzing noise and some smoke, though I was quick enough to turn it off;...

Help needed for diagnosing an ATX PSU (NPS-200PB-96D)
    by TheMightyMadman
    Hi all,

I recently got a nice Gateway PC from 1999 with a Slot 1 Pentium III @ 500MHz, the seller said it worked but the PC was completely dead. It has a Newton Power NPS-200PB-96D 200W PSU which is 20-pin ATX compatible but a different form factor case and a cooling fan/shroud used by the CPU, so I'd like to get it working again if possible.

I can't find any schematics for it, it seems to be a Delta PSU based around the DNA1001D PFC/PWM and DNA1002D.

Originally is was completely dead with no 5Vsb supply, so I did a bit of fault-finding on it:
    1. The ferrite
