    Dell D550P

    I have a Dell PSU from a Precision 470 workstation. Model D550P-00
    P/N DPS-550DB
    Dell P/N D1257

550watt. That just clicks when power is applied. No voltage on any of the 12v or 3.3v rails. Visually it looks ok. Doesn't smell burnt. Anyone have any suggestions on where to start looking? The clicking is coming from I think the AC side like its a relay that clicks on, but no output.

Sounds like one of the output rectifiers may be shorted. Nonetheless, let's start with the basics... Do you have a multimeter? If so, with the PSU unplugged from the computer but plugged in the wall, check the voltage on the 5vsb rail. On a standard ATX connector with standard color-coded wires, this would be the purple wire. Should be 5v or close.
If there is no voltage on the 5vsb rail, the problem is more likely to be either on the primary side or somewhere within the 5vsb circuit. If 5vsb is present, then the problem is more likely to be located on the secondary.

Post some pictures of the inside of the power supply, if possible. Unplug PSU from wall before opening, of course. The large cap(s) may still be charged even after the PSU is unplugged, therefore exercise caution around that area and perhaps even avoid touching anything there for 5-10 minutes.

Well, of course I get around to testing, and it PSU starts working, now I can't get it to fail. So apparently this will have to resume when it decides to stop working again.

I had a similar Dell PSU to this, it had partially burned itself up inside, around one of the big coils. Stole its fans and threw it out.

I know everell would have been able to fix it

i forgot who did it (newbie2?), but there was a guy who made a gutless l&c into a decent unit... he had been powering a pentium d off of it... LOL! and that was before he fixed it.

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
            by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.

Dell Latitude 5420 does not start (no post) need help to find the reason why
            by F R 2568
            Hello all,

this is my first post, so if I make mistakes please do not hesitate to point them out, thank you in advance.

I got a Dell Latitude 5420 (Service Tag: 7RFM6D3, Motherboard: GDF40 LA-491P Rev.: 2.0 (A01)) which does not start and I want to repair it. These are the symptoms:

If the laptop is only connected to the AC adapter (battery removed):

When I press the power button, the keyboard backlight and the display backlight are turning on. Caps key light is lightning, but key does not respond to pressing it.

            The power/battery...

            Looking for Dell Latitude 5520 / 5530 / 5540 RJ45 network connector replacement
            by diamon
I have a Dell Latitude 5530 with a damaged RJ45 network connector. See the attached pictures.

Have already searched on Farnell / Aliexpress / Ebay and had contact with several suppliers on Aliexpress and Ebay, but they cannot deliver this connector.
Is there someone inside the EU, who has these connector(s) or perhaps defective motherboard(s) for these laptop models I have mentioned in the topic title.

            Dell 5410 greyed out BT
            by OntarioTL
Well I've learned something new today. Of all the Dell laptops I've come across I have never seen bluetooth greyed out, and only to learn this is during the build from Dell factory. I've tried to pull the original BIOS and fix with another dell with the same issue on the forums, however the original was not recovered from the forum upgrade so I cannot do a comparison to attempt the fix on my own.

If someone could help me out with this unit and I'll try the next one as so far I have 2 on my desk with this issue. Thanks in advance!

Dell G5 SE 5505 - "Invalid memory installed" after BIOS update.
            by lalle-
            Hello!

I have a problem with a Dell G5 SE 5505 laptop that I hope someone can give me a few pointers on.
[OK, it's not really a laptop, I'm running the motherboard on my desktop with only cooling, RAM and an M2 drive attached.]
I had some performance issues, so I decided to update my BIOS from 1.7.0 to the latest version, 1.20.0.
The computer restarted and the update dit not want to continue without a battery connected, even though I used dell's method of bypassing this requirement.
I tried updating to a custom BIOS from Reddit user Satori_Nori https://www...
