    z5wah la-b162p bios+ec chips

I want to find both of them in the motherboard.
hello I'm new here and I'm new to technology apartment plus studies. I want to fix my laptop. Dead screen and doesn't respond to power button. I tried my best to turn it on then it opened it charged. The problem is the power button and the display. I want to find the bios chip so I can program it again with the idea of the power button and the display will work again. Plus when I turn on the motherboard the fan spins slow and if esc+fn keys pressed nothing corresponds. So I think the bios chip has some letters or binary codes changed. That's why nothing of the connected devices can actually work. But I don't know if it is the bios chip or the ec bios chip. I do it to learn or to fix my own things.
If I can't have an answer I'll return this motherboard to the seller and take a new one.

Here`s the schematic for your board - http://www.s-manuals.com/motherboard/compal_la-b162p ,and heres the boardview - https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...40&postcount=2 .The boardview will open with openboardview - https://openboardview.org/
The bios chip is at U6 ,it will be silkscreened in white lettering on the motherboard, you can find its location using the boardview. There could be a second chip at U7. You will need an SPI bios programmer to make backups of the chip(s) .The CH341A is the cheapest programmer (+ you need a sop8 adapter),the best way would be to desolder the chip using a hot air station (not a hot air paintstripper gun) ,or using a soldering iron and a pick, run some solder across 4 legs and lift carefully with the pick, then do the other side. Alternatively you can use a SOP8 clip and avoid desoldering ,but the clips are not very reliable, they can be ok if used correctly.

      https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-ch341a.html

Some of the ch341a black pcb version programmers need a voltage mod,its been discussed on the forum already. There aren`t any problems with the green pcb versions,if you can find one.

EDIT: Here`s some alternative software for the ch341a,better than the included software

      https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...04&postcount=7 NeoProgrammer

      https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...6&postcount=10 AsProgrammer

If you decide to buy the programmer and post your backups then make sure to make at least 2 backups and compare the files using a hex editors "File Compare" function or some other method. Thats to ensure you made a good read.

        Re: z5wah la-b162p bios+ec chips

So, it has only one chip and if U7 a second chip.
New question, then why it has bios and ec bios? Or that chip actually is for both of them?
And at U6 that chip is bios or ec or something else?
I saw the schematic but I’ll take months to actually understand it.
About the board view difficult to open the files due to lack of computer.
I bought a programmer Ch341a and it’s the black one so Ill search more about it.
I saw the mother board it’s has U6 chip.
I think that’s the only chip I see with a trademark on it.
        Thank u so much.

            Re: z5wah la-b162p bios+ec chips

I checked and there is only 1 bios chip on this board at U6, so just make a backup when you get the programmer and post it here in a zip or rar attachment and someone will help.
The EC is U28,theres some dedicated programmers to flash it, Vertyanov JIG ,SVOD3, SAS (vertyanov clone) .You can flash the KB9012/KB9022 with a CH341A though,(or you can buy a pre programmed chip on ebay)

              Re: z5wah la-b162p bios+ec chips

I want to exclude the u28 chip so I’ll say that it’s ok because when I jump the pwr it turns on with fan spinning at low speed and keyboard external works.
I’ll upload the U6 bios data then we see what happens.
My question here is if U28 chip is messed up, what would do to the motherboard and it’s functionality?

Honest to god reprogramming kb9012 seems interesting but way advanced for me at the moment.

I read the article about EC, I’m sad to see that actually my board doesn’t work because of that EC U28.
I’ll try bios but I think that’s not the cause.

                    Re: z5wah la-b162p bios+ec chips

The problem might not be with the bios or EC. You can try it anyway, when your progrmmer arrives.

                        Re: z5wah la-b162p bios+ec chips

hello again, i brought the ch341a programmer and everytime i clamp the clip to the chip i get this message
                        Current programmer: CH341
                        ID(9F): 000000(Unknown)
                        ID(90): 0000(Unknown)
                        ID(AB): 00(Unknown)
                        ID(15): 0000(Unknown)

                        Thats phase one.
let me explain what i did.
Position 1 it starts with the red wire on the clip so i place the cable to the pin 1 (red)
i place the clip to the usb programmer and when i press read ic it shows me this message

                        whats wrong

actually it was a faulty sop8 i went and changed it.
Here is what was read in the ic.
Now i want to know if these are correct.
Otherwise please upload the bios bin for z5wah la-b162p

reprogramming the bios ec is not the same as reprogramming the bios? there should be no problems right? both are eeprom memories

From what I learned these days they get programmed differently but both can be programmed with the Ch341a programmer.

Flashed and the power button worked but only first time. The only change is that the fan stopped after it booted. But amazingly when it booted the fan had the correct speed but sadly in the end stopped.
                                    Any ideas?
