I would like to ask you a question, if you don't mind. While looking at your photos, I had a question: should only one line be touched? If so, which one is the correct one: from 1 to 13 or from 2 to 14? And at which position along those lines should the contact be made? -

pin 4 or 6/8/10 only one pin to gnd
During the logo display, or just before the backlight comes on—lasting for 1 to 2 seconds.
after removing the short circuit

Some people do all the pins at once, but that is not my recommendation.

@Macdonald
I've downloaded and extracted the same EC update version as in your file, trimmed the 32-byte header from the EC update version N2IHT42W, here's the complete file (262,144 bytes or 256kB). Check your programmer and select a chip size of at least 256kB or greater and try, it should work.Attached FilesPremium supporters get full download access and other benefits.

I have really learned a lot reading your post, and i am grateful for having kindhearted people like you here. Instead of working on the Jtags to clear my supervisor password on my ThinkPad T490 i mistakenly used the Lenovo patcher with my bios file of 32mb. Afterwards i am not getting any display, can you assist me to get the machine working again.Re: Supervisor password on Lenovo T490 and T490s
@mgjini
In my experience, when you erase the EC chip to reprogram it, is when the internal EEPROM contents are erased too, that EEPROM memory hold the Supervisor Password among other data like Model Number, Serial Number, TYPE, etc.
So depending on the programmer you are using the next step is to reprogram the EC chip with the exact file you saved from EC, then use the software utility (ThinkPad Maintenance Utility) that is in another post to program the ThinkPad DMI information.
I've verified the EC file you uploaded, version N2IHT39W, with the corresponding BIOS/EC update downloaded from Lenovo and it is an exact copy; I just had to delete the header from the EC update (first 32-bytes) and the tail starting from 40000h all the way to the end, then I could do the comparison of both files.

Hey guys,
have a laptop here that has a supervisor Password (dump in Attachements).
Before i write the Serial NR.etc i wanted to say that strangely after flashing with 3 different Bios dumps and one from lenovos site
the laptop works but everytime it wants me to type a supervisor password i never set.
I thought the supervisor password is stuck in the ec bios but no it isn't either because after replacing the ec chip from one of another board it still has the supervisor password.
Anyway i wanted to ask what of the two chips is the ec bios because on the left...-

by GhostDog98I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T14s Gen2 AMD (20xk-0053au type number) that I bought off ebay.
Naturally, the seller forgot to remove the supervisor password, and now is not replying. Due to shipping costs, it isn't really feasible to do a full return.
From what I can tell, to bypass the supervisor password I'd need to do an EC flash.
However, I still have 1 attempt on the password before it locks me out.
Thus, my questions are:
- If I get to a "SYSTEM DISABLE" state, will I still be able to boot the operating system etc?
- Does getting a "SYSTEM... -
by GoopyGooberI bought this laptop on vacation because the seller gave it to me for about 30 bucks converted USD. It's managed by some disbanded company but it worked fine. I was tinkering with it and secure wiped it because I wanted to reinstall windows 11 but the supervisor password locks everything and does not allow me to change anything in the bios menu/setup/etc. To get inside all I have to do is press enter when asked for the password, but other than that: can't change much. It sees me windows iso flash drive but won't allow me to change Secure Boot to let it boot.
Is a supervisor password...-

by s.izadbakhshHi everyone,
I am requesting assistance with a Lenovo ThinkPad L14 Gen 4 laptop that has a BIOS Password.
I checked the motherboard, and the onboard EC chip is a Nuvoton NPCX997KAABX (ThinkShield). I do have an RT809H programmer with the specialized Keyboard Test Board interface ready for ISP flashing, but this specific new-generation Nuvoton chip is currently not supported for direct EC reading/writing in the software list.
Consequently, I have desoldered the main BIOS chip (MX25L12872FM2I-10G) and taken a verified, clean 16MB dump using a socket adapter...-
