No good... I even tried flashing back the original lock BIOS. Same thing. I'm worried that I somehow damaged the motherboard. The power & caps lock flashed, and between flashes the hard-drive light flashes 6 times...

Can you in-place read/write or will this damage other components or produce read/write errors?
I have exported config using HP BIOS utility (which includes all settings, serial, UUID, MS Marker, feature byte etc) can I flash a different unlocked, same model (same ver?), then import settings using HP BIOS utility? (do all settings import - I've never tried) This would be useful for a damaged chip on removal if it cannot be read.
Further to the above, are the files interchangable?
I've lost the original dump, could i just apply one from another machine (not bothered about serial etc).

it doesn't work like that..post a bios ok from a working laptop, but have the same motherboard model..if they don't have the same motherboard, post the motherboard model to the laptop where you lost the bios ...
