Dell XPS 15 9520 bios
-
Hej / Hello,
I need help with my Dell XPS 15 9520. The laptop was dead, and I tried to flash the BIOS using a programmer with a file extracted from the official Dell .exe. Now the laptop turns on but it is stuck on the Dell Logo.
I suspect it needs a Clean ME Region and proper DMI transfer.- Model: Dell XPS 15 9520
- Motherboard Part Number: LA-L402P
- Service Tag: GZRF0V3
- EX: 36990884127
- Problem: Stuck on Dell Logo after programming.
I have attached my original (corrupt) backup file that I read with the programmer before flashing.

Thank you, but unfortunately, it doesn't work. When I flash the new BIOS, the laptop never turns on; the screen remains black, and it never charges. There's no orange or white light. When I flash the original BIOS again, the laptop charges, the Dell logo appears, and the three orange and five white lights disappear.

Thank you for this information; it was very helpful. I installed the new BIOS you sent me on my laptop, but it still only shows the Dell logo and three orange lights. On the original BIOS, the Dell logo appears and three orange and five white lights illuminate. Someone sent me a BIOS that they thought fixed it, but after installing it, the laptop doesn't work. I've tried several different BIOS versions, and the problem persists; the laptop won't turn on.

Model: Dell XPS-15 (9520)
MotherBoard Model: HDO51/HDA51 LA-L402P Rev:0.3(X02) 2021-10-13
Serial: 0YRJFK
It seems to have mostly bricked itself after a recent common BIOS-Firmware upgrade from Windows (like usual) trying to get from v1.4.0 to v1.6.0. Now, it just shows BIOS screen for a few seconds before turning-itself back Off. It doesn't seem to be fully Posting. No fans. No Diag-Code flashing. F2, F12, and CTRL-ESC keys are non-responsive. No physical damage.
What I (unsuccessfully) tried to fix it:
- CMOS and RTC resets
- - As instructed in Dell Service Manual (basically, disconnecting run-battery inside and dissipating flea-power)
- Dell BIOS-Recovery (I tried several ways, but was never able to get it to actually start)
- Temporarily removing RAM and SSD (but still no Diag-Codes)
With my new XGecu-T76 & XgPro v13.17, I dumped the Winbond 25R512JVEN rom with a pogo-tool (left in-circuit).

Hello That's not the Serial number Dell Service Tags are usually 7 character alphanumeric codes
0YRJFK looks more like a Dell part number not the laptop serial, post the Service tag to proceedComment

Alright Tesla since this is a beta prototype unit as you told me and the only serial you could find is that one try flashing this file I hope it works

I rebuilt it using the same BIOS version (1.6.0) and cleaned the ME region The Windows key was not transferred as you requested because your original file doesn't contain oneAttached FilesPremium supporters get full download access and other benefits.

I reinstalled the motherboard and had high-hopes, but no, unfortunately ... it did not work. In fact, it appears to have made it worse.

It still turns-on with Power-button, and the keyboard lights-up ... but now, that is the only signs-of-life.
The screen no longer turns-on
The Dell-Logo no longer appears on the screen
The front external LED (acting as a "power light") no longer lights-up white
There was a tiny-white on motherboard (LED-6) that seemed to come-on and/or flash when the laptop was powered-up. It no longer turns on, ever.
The laptop turns-itself off after about 15 seconds.
I've tried all the CMOS and RTC resets. Nothing seems to make a difference.
The programming went fine, and it verified good.

What you sent me was definitely written onto the chip.
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...86#post3844186
So what now?
I just need a working BIOS-Firmware.
Under the circumstances ... I DO NOT need a Windows-Key, my old BitLocker drive working, etc.
I appreciate you try to save them, and I agree it was worth a try ... but none of that is important any more at this point.
In this thread, I see other bad-ones, but I think I also see some others that are working. I just can't tell which are which.Comment

Try this: Original (untouched) ME region, BIOS downgrade to 1.5.0, you may also have an ES CPU and 1.6.0 removed some CPU microcodes (removed ucode for CPUID 90671, 906A0, 906A2), it only has microcode for 906A3 and 906A4
ME version is the same 16.0.15.1810 for 1.4.0 - 1.6.0
If it works, don't update past that pointAttached FilesPremium supporters get full download access and other benefits.

Firstly, thanks for coming-up with Plan-B so quickly.
1. Try this: Original (untouched) ME region, BIOS downgrade to 1.5.0,
2. ME version is the same 16.0.15.1810 for 1.4.0 - 1.6.0
3. If it works, don't update past that point
4. you may also have an ES CPU and 1.6.0 removed some CPU microcodes (removed ucode for CPUID 90671, 906A0, 906A2), it only has microcode for 906A3 and 906A4
1. Let's examine this closer. I'll pull the board again if you think it has a good chance of working next time.
So, possible i7-MicroCode issue, possible Intel-ME issue . Good ... working the problem.
2. Good to know ... a stroke of luck actually. Yes, I had v1.4.0 (working for years actually), and tried to get to v1.6.0.
3. Actually, I could do that if I had to I think. Even for CA-2023, I could treat it like a UEFI-Legacy machine without any more BIOS-Firmwares coming.
4. I have a good picture of the CPU and GPU without the heatsink. Can you tell by looking at top of chip?

-
1. It depends how Dell implemented the anti-downgrade policy
3. You can leave Secure Boot disabled on that case
4. Look at Spec code on the CPU, on ES is 4 characters and looks like this: Qxxx
Retail CPUs have 5 characters: Sxxxx
EDIT: That W25Q16JW chip is GPU VBIOS, don't touch it
EDIT2: Just in case I'm also leaving clean BIOS region 1.6.0 extracted from update + your original ME regionAttached FilesPremium supporters get full download access and other benefits.

by TeslaI have a Dell XPS-15 (9520) with the LA-L402P motherboard. It seems to have bricked itself after a common BIOS-Firmware upgrade. Now, it just shows BIOS screen for a few seconds before turning-itself back Off (and doesn't seem to be fully Posting). I've done these many times before with no problems.
I was hoping to please have my own-thread to work-through this (hopefully successful) repair as a whole. Apart from the possible need to have a BIOS-dump fixed-up, I have a feeling I'm going to have other questions. This includes using my new XGecu-T76 for the first time (should be here... -
by zeniusHello, I have an old Dell G3 3579 (ST: 2WQ7LP2-8FC8) with a newer 8FC8 BIOS password. I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. I was also able to boot to a modified GRUB shell where I attempted to edit many BIOS security related options like BIOS Guard/Lock, Flash Signature Override, ME FW Image Re-Flash, etc.
Unfortunately, some of these modifications like to Intel BIOS Guard failed because it is fused into the PCH. Also,...-

by TopPopSorry for the long story. I have a Dell Latitude 5530 (i7) laptop (South Peak 15 MLK MB DDR4 203102-1 FK8VG$JA) with an admin BIOS password that I want to remove. Service Tag: HYKFPT3. Other than that the laptop worked OK.
I found a CH341A Black and went looking for the BIOS chip on the motherboard. After trying to read one chip that was a firmware chip but not the BIOS I think I found the BIOS chip labeled Winbond 25Q256JVEN. Altogether I think I found 4 different firmware chips in the laptop. The BIOS chip is a WSON8 6x8. I used the CH341A, NeoProgrammer, and a cheap pogo pin clip... -
by mikeybassHi, I hope some one has some advice for me. I searched the forums but didn't see anything relevant. I acquired two identical Dell 9010 Mid Tower computers from a business office upgrade (they were going to throw them out). Both of them have the same motherboard (00F82W). One of them works flawlessly. The other one had a corrupted BIOS. I tried flashing numerous main BIOS and EC files from the internet, but none of them worked. I decided to copy the main BIOS and EC from the working 9010 computer and successfully flashed the corrupted BIOS. This got the computer able to boot again and run norm...

by capoplaysHey everyone,
I recently bought a Dell G15 5515 with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H and 3060 RTX. The BIOS chip on it was dead, and my hardware guy replaced the chip. After that, everything was working fine.
The BIOS is currently at version 1.22.1, and I wanted to update it. I downloaded the latest BIOS version from Dell Support using my ST: FQZMYJ3, but when I tried to run it, it says "unsupported system." I asked my tech guy what he did, and he said he took the chip from another board and flashed it onto mine.
When I check the BIOS using the F12 menu Flash...-
