    what programmer for Winbond W25R256JW

Off topic, but I think I have the best chance to get an answer here: Which programmer can read a Winbond W25R256JW (not W25R256JV) ?

Thanks, have you tried it or is this information just based on datasheets?

Do you already have an SPI programmer, if so what model is it and the software version. Is the W25R256JW chip on a laptop motherboard or something else

Looks like it's supported by the RT809H

              WINBOND W25R256JW(X4)@SOIC16

EDIT: I don't know if you need 1.8v adapter, that chip is 1.8v

Not yet supported by the T56

Except an ID error I could not get any useful reading. I'm using a Pogo-Pin adapter, may be I have to desolder the chip.

Have you tried with latest software for RT809H (linked above at ifix website)?
                  Or from here:
                  https://www.hklrf.com/wap/Download.html?styleid=&page=2
Scroll down to "Latest version application software for RT809H programmer", dated 23/04/2025

                  Try both options
                  WINBOND W25R256JW@WSON8 8X6
                  WINBOND W25R256JW(X4)@WSON8 8X6

                  ----
For the T56, I think the W25Q256JW is close enough, it may work

According to W25R256JW datasheet the device ID is the same EF 60 19

I installed the latest SW RT809HSE_20250423_ENG.exe and realized, that the SW-package seems to be faulty: the main exe file is missing. So I am now using RT809H_RT809HSE_20241125_ENG.exe.

edit: Found the reason for the mysterious vanishing of the exe
                    Detected: Trojan:Win32/Kepavl!rfn
                    Status: Quarantined

Noted, as I have T48 programmer
                        W25R256JW == W25Q256JW

Same should also work for W25R128JW, select W25Q128JW

Yeah, sure... It may be a false positive flagged by several AV vendors, likely whatever code protection/code obfuscation they use for the main .exe triggers those AV, they should work instead with those AV vendors and report it as false positive
