              Hi everyone,

I'm the latest one to join the ever growing group of thousands of people screwed by the horrible HP bios upgrade that bricks your laptop

Anyway, I'm currently waiting for the 8 pin clamp adapter to arrive in the mail, because I'm extremely bad with soldering irons. I'm trying to reflash the eeprom without desoldering the chip.

I've taken the HDD out of the laptop, and I've inspected the HP folder in the EFI system partition. I've found a log file that hilariously says that everything went perfectly fine! (hahahah, YEAH, SURE!) and a "reconstructed" binary file.

Is this binary file ready to be flashed using the "clamp" adapter and the programmer? Or should I try to dump the bios chip before flashing anything??

              The log says the following:
              Code:

Always dump a backup of the original bios. It contains DMI information (serial number, model number, etc) and your windows key. Someone can use your dump to reconstruct a new bios with the right info moved over.

When you get your programmer, post the dump here. And read this for what info is needed for the post. https://www.badcaps.net/..bios-requests...read-before-posting

Thanks for your reply! Ok, I'll dump the chip as soon as I get my adapter and will report back!

                  Hi everyone,

I've dumped the chip of my non-working laptop, and I've also dumped my sister's laptop, which is the same model.

I've noticed that there are many differences when viewed in an HEX editor, but I'm not sure which parts could be causing my laptop to fail to boot (it doesn't show anything in the screen, screen is black and the fan spins eternally)

Would it be possible to edit the binary file to just fix the corrupt parts and keep the working parts intact?

Ok, here are the details of the dumps inside the "two bios.zip" I posted:

"my-laptop-broken.bin" is a dump from my HP 250 G6 laptop that doesn't boot, with serial number CND7241YHW and platform BID 08328 updated to bios version F.77

"sisters-laptop-good.bin" is a dump from my sister's HP 250 G6 laptop that boots correctly, with serial number CND8470S6H and platform BID 08328 updated to bios version F.77
