My bad, maybe I could've explained better. That laptop is fixed and done, but I have another locked one coming that's a similar model. I know I can get the SN and other info off the physical board, but how can I get that same info off the BIOS dump like you did for me?

With this specific laptop, you have to disassemble it completely to get to the part of the board where the SN is visible. And while the info would bbe viewable in the actual BIOS settings, I'm also asking in the likely event that I'm unable to access the BIOS and can only dump it from the physical chip. I hope that makes sense, it's early where I'm at lol

Thanks again! Sorry I didn't respond sooner, I took a much needed break from PC work after that laptop lol. Of course after the break, while I could remember my process, I had trouble separating exactly what was necessary, and what wasn't. In any case, I scored another laptop of the same type that'll be coming soon so I can remind myself lol. I did have a quick question though - I know I left the SN and other DMI info out of what I had posted. Is there a way to get this information without physically disassembling the laptop and reading it off the mobo?

And don't worry about my P.S comment, I knew you weren't ignoring it, just that you had missed it, which is why I didn't push back any further. I'm glad you were able to do it yourself. I wanted you to learn since that's what you were aiming for, and I always appreciate seeing people understand the process rather than just getting a ready-made solution

Also, when you have some time, Absolutely, feel free to "post a detailed reply with the taken steps". It's totally fine with us. It could help, indeed, other users avoid the same mistakes and save them from the "headache you went through" (But then again, Every troubleshooting headache is a learning opportunity :'D)

Ok, I've made some headway with AI. I'm just not familiar with running scripts, new to BIOS patching/password removal and had trouble with the instructions (and deciphering the last steps that were posted by another), so I can see now where I made my mistakes. I've managed to remove the password, but began having trouble with secure boot, getting rid of manufacturer mode, and booting from a usb drive directly or from a boot file. That being said, the password is gone and I'm able to manage the rest of the issues with installing Windows partway on the drive with another computer. Anyway, when I have time, if it's ok with you, I'll post a detailed reply with the steps I took to hopefully save some people from the headache I experienced lol.

That being said, I just wanted to drop an update, thank you for your hard work writing the scripts, constantly replying with help while I figured it out, and for just being kind in your responses. Tragically, that's very rare (especially on the internet lol). Lastly, I wanted to apologize for not addressing this comment -

You can actually use RCUnlocker even on 32MB chips

Split the locked.bin up, patched each file (the first one said nothing found, but the second one did and patched it). Then I put the files back together (the first part and the second patched part), loaded it on the chip and it STILL has a bios ps. Booted up, gave me the normal warnings about the lid being off and bios changing, then when I clicked "BIOS SETUP" it asked for a password still. I'm lost.

So, when I run your script, am I looking for something specific? Like, how do I know it found what it was looking for? It's just strange because I get different results for each "replacement(s)". When I run your full script, it finds what I posted earlier with the picture, but doesn't say it replaced anything. However, when I run 5, 6 and 7, it gives me "1 replacement(s)", but with separate highlighted results. The results from the full script are above in my previous reply, but here's what I get for 1-7. I've attached each result with the corresponding number. Much thanks

I'm gonna lose my damn mind dude lol. Now, after putting the unlocked bin back on there (twice to double-check), I don't get the manufacturer mode anymore. It goes straight into AMT Disabling, then if I try to go into BIOS I get hit with the password again. If I take it apart and get the 16mb bin, will the 32mb chip still have the password on it? How will I handle this chip? Also, I'm not sure I'm running your script right. It runs, and then stops, but I don't know if it found what it was looking for, or if the necessary replacements have been made or anything.

When I run the full script, following the first instructions in the post, it loads through 4 times (I'm assuming it's going through the scripts one by one), then stops at this screen. At that point, I clicked save as, and saved a copy. Then used hxd to ensure that the original locked and the new one I just saved, are different. Then I erase the chip, verify, load the unlocked script, write and verify again. What's my best course of action here? Sorry for the questions. I'm not at all opposed to someone just doing it for me by uploading the bin file, but I want to be able to do this stuff myself. I buy used laptops frequently, and I don't want to have to bug you guys each time I need something unlocked lol

Yes, use the one that unlocked the laptop with the message on startup: "System is booting in manufacturer mode"
That way, you can use BCU to fill in the DMI information, and then lock Manufacturer Mode afterward

k. ya unfortunately when I loaded the original bios back on the chip it still had the password on it. So after you attain the info from my bin file, you extract the DMI from it, and then once I have that, I can use the HP BIOS Configuration Utility (BCU) to fill it in, and the password will be gone? Just want to make sure I understand. I'm gonna try to write down the full instructions somewhere so if it happens again I have them lol. Here's the BIOS, thanks

So, for this model, you can either rewrite the BIOS without the password (patched using the script) and then fill in these DMI using BCU
Or leave the BIOS chip as it is and instead unlock the EC chip on the backside of the motherboard
