Hi everyone,
I’m asking for some help with a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga 4th Gen that has a strange NVMe boot issue.
Model: ThinkPad X1 Yoga 4th Gen
Machine Type: 20QG-S6GG00
Serial Number: PF-29FF2D
Problem description:
The laptop is NOT able to boot Windows from the internal NVMe SSD.
- It boots perfectly from USB
- Windows installer detects the NVMe drive without any problem
- Windows installation completes successfully
- After installation, the system still refuses to boot from NVMe (boot loop / no boot device)
BIOS details:
- Current BIOS version: 1.66
- Tried updating to 1.67 using Lenovo bootable CD → update fails with error
- BIOS settings reset to defaults
- Secure Boot disabled
- UEFI only (no Legacy option on this model)
What I’ve checked / tried:
- NVMe SSD confirmed working (tested in another system)
- Different NVMe drive, same result
- BIOS settings reviewed multiple times
- Windows installed in pure UEFI / GPT modeComment

Thanks a lot for the BIOS, it boots now and the system is usable, so that’s a big step forward.
However, there is still a serious issue:
- System boots correctly with basic display driver
- As soon as the Intel graphics driver is installed, the screen goes black
- System is still running (can access via keyboard / blind login)
- Booting into Safe Mode and uninstalling the GPU driver restores display
Additional info:
- BIOS update from Windows still fails (same behavior as before)
- BIOS update from bootable media also fails
- Issue is 100% reproducibleComment

That turns on but doesn't display. I've tried editing the bios but can't seem to find my way around this very one. Attached is the old bios.Comment

I have a customer with a Sup PW locked X1 Yoga Gen4, new into this area and looking for help. Please point me to the right direction so I may learn more and possibly fix this issue. I identified a W25Q80DVN1G thinking to flash a BIOS without sup pw. Do you have an article with further instructions? I dont have a programmer, looking for a cost-effective way to flash bios without sup PW, ideas are getting an raspberry to SPI flash without unsoldering the chip from mainboard. Maybe I'm wrong about this. Would you please be so kind and share a link where I could read more?
