A photo of the replaced Mosfet and the two caps, and NCP6151 would help.

Re: Alienware M18x Shorted CPU Mosfet
I'm getting a reading of 9ohms to ground on the CPU rail which had the shorted mosfet. Dead CPU?Leave a comment:

Probably CPU took 19V... But post the reading.Leave a comment:

Re: Alienware M18x Shorted CPU Mosfet
The CPU may be damaged. You can check the resistance to ground of the CPU power rail. Remove all power. Meter in lowest resistance scale.
Check the resistance to ground of the CPU rail and post the reading.Leave a comment:

Alienware M18x Shorted CPU Mosfet
I've got an old Alienware M18x R1 which shorted out the charger whenever it was connected. Tracked down the short to two shorted caps and burned CPU power controller caused by a shorted mosfet on the CPU's graphic power supply.
I've replaced the faulty mosfet, two shorted caps and the CPU Power controller (NCP6151S52MNR2G).
Issue is now whilst there is no short if I attempt to power the system on the fans spin for a couple seconds there are no lights and no further action - the PCH is heating up but there is no CPU power coming out but there is an enable signal going to the NCP6151 but it seems to be not telling the mosfets to open and send power to the CPU. All resistors look to be fine around the NCP6151.
Now given the shorted mosfet plus the damage it caused is it likely that the CPU is also dead and would that cause the issue as described?Tags: None

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by PantherDaveHi all!
I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅
I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

by GLISITHi all,
TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!
I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

by ReintarFirst of all, I'd like to mention that I'm a novice when it comes to laptop repair, although I do have some experience with soldering.
One day, my laptop experienced a severe stutter, and after rebooting, it failed to boot into Windows. I decided to disassemble it and found that the PL900 component was blown. Later, I came across a post (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...error%E2%80%99) with the same problem, where...08-30-2024, 06:13 AM - Loading...
