    Macbook a1465 no ssd detected

    Hello

    I have a macbook 11" A1465 820-3208A from 2015

    laptop has no evidence of water damage, it is clean, ... laptop is working perfect on USB with linux live... but of course it shows a blinking folder ...no ssd is detected, no ios.....
    I have it received with a wrong SSD inserted!!! in the slot, so maybe fried something... the owner placed a SSD from a1466 model instead the correct one.
    I have tested a working SSD on this system and does not work either.

    I have measured:

    C4504 = provides 3.3V
    SSD_RESET_L = 3.33v
    SSD_CLKREQ_L = 3.3

    tested all conector pins in diode mode comparing against another macbook ssd and it is almost the same values.
    Before I attempt to reflow CPU to this , as a very last resource, I would like to ask what else can I test for ssd detection
    thanks in advance!!!

            Voltage reading on R4520, pin # 1 and pin # 2 ?

            DC blocking caps @ C4520 & C4521 present and soldered in ok ? (0201, 0.1uf X5R 16v)

            Voltage reading @ R4505, pin # 2 ?

            U4510 MUX may need to be replaced. This mux selects either PCIe SSD or SATA signals to be mapped onto this common connector.

              PETE with sudo lsblk it is listed i was looking wrong.

              .but cant be seen from macos, if try to install macos from usb it turns itself off after some seconds on apple logo

              and what does it mean being just detected in linux and not able to do anything else?

                  Voltage reading on R4520, pin # 1 and pin # 2 ?

                  3.32v both sides.

                  both present and ok so far

                  Voltage reading @ R4505, pin # 2 ?

                  3.29 on pad pin2

                    I think you may have corrupt partition / format issues but does not appear to be hardware linked since you can see the SSD in Linux.

                    For now, wait for better advice from owners of SSD. Ignore my comments on the hardware troubleshooting at this time.

                      Re: Macbook a1465 no ssd detected

                      Oook that would be great... but same disk in another macbook boots as expected... the other macbook is not identical (a1398) but has identical connector.

                      Note: the ssd is not apple ... it is an M2 with dapter...

                        Re: Macbook a1465 no ssd detected

                        Working on A1398 does not guarantee that it will work for this logic board.

                        Suspecting a compatibility issue across the models but you can review / google for clarity.

                        https://beetstech.com/blog/apple-pro...s-and-upgrades

                        In summary, you want to search for a SSD that is marked to be compatible with the A1465 for the year of your machine. The serial # on the bottom side lid can used used on everymac website to determine the year of your machine.

                            If the drive is formatted with APFS (default with SSD since High Sierra), the MacBook needs a firmware upgrade to boot from it. In general this is done by reinstalling macOS High Sierra on a genuine Apple internal SSD.
