    2015 MacBook Pro Retina 820-3787

I'm stuck. Working on an 820-3787, 2015 MBP Retina. PPBUS_G3H does not have 12V, only about 2V. I discovered that mosfet Q9330 near the GPU was getting hot. I removed it and sure enough it restored my 12V. However, when I replaced it the short returned. I replaced all three mosfets in the area, Q9330, Q9331, and Q9361. No dice. So I resoldered and eventually replaced U9300. Still no luck. In fact now, even when I remove Q9330, there's a short on PPBUS_G3H. When I send power to it, it draws .2 amps, pin 1 on Q9330 sparks and gets hot, which is the UGATE from U9300, only showing about 1V on it.

U9300 isn't getting the right amount of voltage in, which would cause the gate to not open, but im not too sure why it's not getting the voltage. I think it might be a faulty GPU. Does anyone have any ideas? Someone else had worked on this board before me and I'd rather not waste a ton of time on something I can't fix.

isl6259 sends voltage to u9300 opening logic gate to its 5volt if no dice check for your short on gpu

U9300 and Q9330 must be replaced at the same time.
Chances are GPU is damaged since it got 12V. You can at least measure exact resistance to ground on PPVCORE_S0_GFX_REG.

However I'm confused about what "pin 1 on Q9330 sparks and gets hot" and "U9300 isn’t getting the right amount of voltage in" mean.
If someone worked on this board already there must be signs of rework. Make sure GPU itself hasn't been messed with.

Macbook Pro mid 2015 battery required to boot?
        by twonk9098
I have read many forums that state the Macbook Pro 2015 needs / does not need a battery to boot. I'm not convinced as yet which is correct.
The Macbook Pro mid 2015 I have has no battery and do not really want to buy one just to test.
This model has the newer trackpad which is not clickable when turned off.
At the moment, without battery it does turn on with no display (with backlight), no chime and then turns off after 13 seconds. I see this from the power draw on my DTPS.
If I hold the power button whilst connecting the magsafe 2 charger it turns on, again no image but...

MacBook Pro 2018 with Activation Lock
        by envym
        Hi everyone!

I have a 2018 MacBook Pro (with Sequoia OS) that I've been using for years with no problem. I recently received an M2 MacBook Pro so I'm mostly using it and not the 2018 one, but since a friend of mine needs a computer, I thought I could restore my 2018 and give it brand-new-like to my friend.

I tried using the built-in tool to restore the MacBook (Settings > General > Transfer or restore > Delete) but it got stuck when trying to remove the Find Device configuration (it asked me for the password for my old Apple ID -now I use the same account but...

Will I have a bricked logic board after reflow of the GPU v-core U8900 chip on my Mid-2012 15" Retina Macbook pro?
        by korben_dallas
Hi everyone! I'm trying to fix my black screen / failed U8900 GPU v-core on my Mid-2012 Macbook Pro 15" Retinaby doing a rework/reflow of the chip (once I determine that's the real issue; but it likely is).

I've been disabling the GPU in NVRAM for a few years... but it's just time for a better solution.

I'm new to soldering but the only feasible way to fix this issue is to do something myself.

        MY QUESTION:
I've been seeing some people (on this forum mostly) run into issues with the logic board needing a serial number or it being deactivated (?)...

        Need BIOS/EFI dump for MacBook Air A1466 2015 EMC 2925 (8gb)
        by yura8
Hi there! I have not so usual situation...

I have 2015 MacBook Air A1466 EMC 2925 with 8Gb of RAM. It seams that I've killed it by bad SSD adapter. It starts, cooler works... But no chime, screen is black. SMC reset seams works, NVRAM reset doesnt works...

My repair guy has checked all possible. It's all ok with power. The last idea - I could kill EFI firmware... So, I need a firmware of EFI to check it. I have a programmer. But I don't have a similar laptop now to download it and compare

P.S. If you have else any ideas about repair, or you had a similar...
