DELL INSPIRON 5558 not working on battery power
Hi,
So, where to start. I have DELL INSPIRON 5558, with motherboard AAL10 la-b843p. Maybe a month or so ago, BIOS started reporting that my AC Adapter is not recognized. I had to tilt it a little to get BIOS to recognize it. I did not want to fry my MB so at that time I have disassembled my laptop and tested my MB where power is plugged in and power supply, I checked for voltages and sure only 19.8V comes to the MB when the charger is plugged in. At the time my battery was bad so I figured out to order a new one. But in the meantime, I could not power up my laptop only on battery, I need to plug AC adapter if I want to use my laptop. Even when it is running on ac adapter, and If the battery is in when I unplug adapter the laptop shuts down immediately. (Also while battery is in battery LED is flashing three times amber one-time steady white, I could not find error codes on net, so I posted on Dell Community forum but I'm still waiting for a reply). After I tried to debug it somehow. So I disassembled laptop again and tested battery pins on the motherboard. Here is my "schematics" with results:
Also, I will put MB schematics in attachment (I have found that schematics here on this forum) and few pictures of my motherboard.
I also tried to check for blown out fuses, but I have a hard time identifying them all and I have hard time understanding which part could be responsible for power not coming from battery to the motherboard.
I should point out that, ePSA diagnostics checks everything in green and does not complain. The MB does not beep or send other warning codes etc. Only visible problem is that laptop is not using battery power. The laptop can determine there is a battery, it can figure out its health, percentage, is it charging etc. but it can not work only on battery.
It would be helpful if someone would at least narrow down the problem, or narrow down what circuit should I check on MB using schematics.
If you need more information, and if I forgot to write something down, just ask.
Ps. I also tried riding off charge in laptop holding my power button without battery or ac in and updating BIOS to the latest version. So, I'm running out of ideas. By the way, I know DELL can limit CPU freq. rate when it detects bad AC adapter, but I'm wondering can it limit somehow using a battery to power it, this is an absurd option but, just asking.
