    Pin out of Reneas r2j24020F

    Hi Folks,

Can anybody help me to get the pin out of Reneas r2j24020F ?
This is a smart battery chip in the battery pack from the Dell latitude E4310.
I roamed the internet, but I can't find the pin out.
Most links lead to datasheet sides, but no pin out in the doc from this chip.

    look at page14,
they may be alternate part numbers based on the package.

      thx stj,
my chip has a QFN48 housing, which is not listed there. I have seen a lot of the available doc, but nowhere the pin configuration.
So you might be right, that the partnumber is differfent. I found the M37512 (also Renesas) as being compatible, but I do not know if it is pin-compatible.

Can you post a picture of the chip?
The one that stj found (and me too) seem to be related to p-channel mosfets while yours seems to be a uC.

The picture from the battery is bad, so I put a clear chip picture also.

No luck finding any info. The 20F seems to have 56k of flash memory and the 22F 96k. Preprogrammed... Does that mean it comes with a fixed software already when you buy it? Who knows.

thx paulstef, when you look at the M37512 in the software tools for them, the M37512 and the r2j240 are mentioned in the same line.
Now I need this program and rather for free.

The screenshot appears to be related to a TI EV2300 evaluation module:

                http://www.ti.com/tool/ev2300

It is very similar to the screenshot in this thread, albeit from a different TI gas gauge IC:

                https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...t=50412&page=2

Try the tool for the BQ2060A. It's a different chip, but perhaps these chips follow some standard in regard to the registers.

                  Good info, thank you fzabkar.
Regretfully the software link does not work anymore, but in my picture you can see the V2300 from TI next to Renesas M37512 and R2j240 you can choose one of them. The software from Regedit is very expensive and I didn't find it elsewhere yet.

Re: Pin out of Reneas r2j24020F

Here are some road maps and block diagrams that might help to determine what is inside the R2J24020F. It appears that it consists of a 16-bit MCU plus an AFE (analogue front end?).

The M37512 is just an 8-bit MCU that is mated with an external AFE, so the R2J24020F is a completely different beast. I expect that they are register compatible, though.

                        Thx a lot fzabkar,
I installed the software and try to figger it out now
In the mean time I did a reset on the r2j240 pin 15, like the pin out from M37512, by putting it to gnd. Something changed, the battery led turns blue every now and than and after a while he flashes amber again. On top of that, windows can't find the battery anymore. So I assume the chip is cleared. Now see what I can do with the program and the flow charts.

You could compare the serial clock and data pins of your module's connector against the M37512 pinout. That should tell you how close the pinouts are. You may find that they are totally different, in which case one would have to wonder whether you did in fact short the reset pin. You could also identify the ground and supply pins on your R2J24020F and compare them against the M37512.

It is crazy that there is nowhere a pin configuration to be found from the r2j240.
I will try to do it your way.

If you look at the pictures, some crazy things happened

                              All data are 0xFFFF.

It could be that the R2J24020F is not compatible with the software for the BQ2060A.

That is correct, but also possible that the reset worked?

Re: Pin out of Reneas r2j24020F

There must be commands that are standardised so that the OS can communicate with any battery in general terms over the SMBus, but there must also be manufacturer specific commands that allow the manufacturer to calibrate and program his particular device. I have no idea what happened when you shorted that "reset" pin.

It's easy to be wise in hindsight, but I would have started by identifying the known pins, ie Vcc, Ground, SCL, SDA. There would also be an 0.1 ohm resistor for current sensing, and of course the BAT+ pin.

Re: Pin out of Reneas r2j24020F

You are right, it would have been wiser, but I can't find any pin configuration so I had to gamble about the compatibility with M37512, This happened before your first suggestion, regretfully. Now the onliest possibility I have is the program from Regeditvn.com M37512-R2J240-EV2300 which seems to run directly on the laptop without programmer.
But that one is way to expensive for a single job and I can't find any other.

the pdf file shows exactly the what and how of the chip, but not the pin configuration. Here I noticed the reset availability.
