Dell XPS M1730 crashes when AC adapter it plugged in!

I bought an XPS M1730 with a faulty GPU and replaced it with a working GPU, it works fine on battery power but when the AC adapter is plugged in it crashes, even when plugged in while in bios (so it's not a windows problem) could it be the AC adapter, motherboard power problem, or GPU? The laptop can be charged when turned off in order to run it on battery till it runs out then it has to be turned off to charge it again. Also is there a way to manually control all 3 fans, i8kfangui31 only controls 2 fans.

Bad power adapter or power jack?

All fixed, it was my graphics card that had some fault even though it was working, so I reflowed the original GPU from this laptop when I got it and it works now :-) now does anyone know how to control the fan speeds? i8kfangui only control's 2 fans not all 3
