Sony Vaio VPCEB2S1E freeze

Hello everyone
I have a laptop which suddenly, without a warning, just goes into freeze mode.
Everything stops.
The mouse is stuck and the clock does not count.
I have to force shut off to resume (holding power key for 5 seconds)

New fresh Windows 7 install.
All drivers up to date
RAM modules re-seated.

What next?

1st what platform?
Intel amd?
Video amd nvidia?

Try another cpu if intel.
Then go with a reflow on video chipset

Check hard drive for bad sectors and run memtest on the memory.

I run Windows 7 professional 64-bit
Intel core i3 M 350
GFX: ATI Radeon HD5650

I have run memtest86+ with no errors found
Also ran Intel CPU test - including stress test - no errors

Next plan will be to:
Check harddrive for bad sectors. What application is preferred?

Windows disc check found no bad sectors.
Don't know if this has a BGA or PGA cpu socket.
Worst thing would be cold joint under BGA...

or bad CPU!

try a pentium.

most of the time if its not the cpu its the rail that provide the voltage.

by lowering the cpu type you lower the need of more voltage. hence the freeze stops. saw this and manage to get away with it just by lowering the CPU or in some cases DISABLE the core one by one from device manager until it run perfectly .

Voila . Now do your homework and tell us what happen :P

P.S. When you disable a core the battery will last longer.

OK.
There is no relation to heat. That's for sure.
It can fail first time power on, or after 10 hours.
A clue may be that I get some crash messages when trying 3D graphics.
Perhaps the GFX chip is at fault.

This CPU (i3 M350) has intel HD graphics, but do not know how to find a driver for it and run the graphics from CPU and not Radeon. Possible to do?

I think the Radeon can be disabled with the CCC software.
Download the hard drive manufacturers diagnostic software and use that to check the hard drive for bad sectors.
