    HP dv6-3010ev strange fault

    Hello everybody,

    I really need your help on this one.
    It came with no picture problem. I have opened it and saw the notorious 216-0752001 chip. After changing it with a new one, picture came normally. I have been trying to install windows. When I install the driver from hp, the display adapter on the device manager changes to AMD M880G with ATI mobility Radeon hd 4250. After the restart, the laptop gets till welcome screen and afterwards picture disappears. Surprisingly, on external monitor picture is perfect! Has this occurred to anybody here? Is it a driver issue or something hardware ? BIOS is the latest version according to HP, have tried on both 32 &64bit edition and also a reflow on the external's card chipset with no result.

    sounds like a bad rework. did u put a new chip or just reballed the old ones ?

      New chip.
      Do you think that it might be off? The strange thing is that on external monitor it has picture in full resolution (monitor's maximum)

        it could be also bad flux. wich flux brand did u use in rework?

        cheap ones are not good.

        edit: try to remove driver and get driver from ati site., or better do a windows update and make it get automatically. see if problem is still the same.

          I use amtech's NC-559-ASM known to be original. I have never had any problems with that one and with the seller of the chips. It is very strange. I can remember on some VAIO series with older series that I had the same problem and it was driver issue then but no I have no idea.

                Well through windows update there was a driver installation and after the restart it has picture but after doing restart for the second time the laptop stucks after the windows logo.
                I think that the only solution will be to change again the chipset and if problem still exists then I have to give it back.

                  You either got a dud chip or you overheated it during soldering. It happens. Change it again and it should work.

                    Well I will give up on this one. The motherboard was already very bent and the covers were broken too (I don't know why I even bothered changing the chipset). Now with a brand new chipset it doesn't have picture. Have reflowed already the ati gpu & the northbridge chipset with no result. So it goes to garbage for me

                      See, that's why it is important to add all important info to the first post. A bent motherboard should always be headed straight to the parts bin, it is not worth the hassle to attempt major rework on it.

                        preheat the whole board to 120° for 60 seconds, then put it straight and let it cold down.

                        tried also with only one ram only ?

                        what value u have on coils with multimeter in diode mode ?

                          Thanks for your information. I will go with Unique's suggestion. It is already in the trash bin. I really don't want to spend any more effort on this one. Btw I have tried only with one RAM memory, on external display with no result. I bothered trying because it was a friend's machine and I thought let's give it a chance.
