Acer Nitro 5 AN515-55 (LA-K862P GH51M) - Turns on for a split second, fans spin then stop, lights stay on (Not BIOS/EC)

    Hi everyone,
I am working on an Acer Nitro 5 AN515-55 with motherboard model GH51M LA-K862P.
    The Symptoms:
When I press the power button, the cooling fans spin up for a fraction of a second and immediately turn back off. However, the keyboard backlight remains on, the power LED stays solid blue, and the charging LED remains solid orange (indicating it detects and charges the battery normally).
There is no image on the screen, and the laptop appears stuck in an early power state.
What I have tried so far:
    1. Power Drain & Hard Reset: Disconnected the main battery and CMOS battery, held down the power button for 60 seconds. Behavior did not change. Tested on adapter only (without battery) with the exact same results.
    2. Crisis Recovery Mode (Fn + Esc): When triggering the crisis recovery shortcut, the fans ramp up to 100% full speed and stay spinning continuously, but the board does not attempt to read the USB drive or flash anything.
    3. BIOS & EC Reprogramming: Since the Fn+Esc mode worked, I suspected a corrupt firmware issue. I pulled the dumps and received a clean Main BIOS (16MB) and EC (2MB) file from a forum member here. I successfully flashed both chips using an external programmer (NeoProgrammer). Both chips erased, wrote, and verified 100% successfully. Unfortunately, the behavior is exactly the same after the flash (fans spin for a split second, then stop; lights stay on).
Since this rules out a corrupt BIOS or EC firmware, I am dealing with a hardware fault—likely a short circuit on one of the power rails causing the Over-Current Protection (OCP) or an IC to drop the power sequence immediately after the fans get power.
Before I start injecting voltage or blindly hunting for shorted MLCCs, I wanted to ask the experts here:
    • Are there any known common-failure MOSFETs, DrMOS chips, or capacitors on this specific LA-K862P board that cause this exact symptom?
    • Which specific power rails or Power Good signals should I trace first with my multimeter given that the keyboard backlights and power LEDs manage to stay powered on?
I have a multimeter and am ready to measure resistances on the coils. Any guidance on where to look next would be highly appreciated!
    Thanks in ahead!

On Sorin yt channel is a few videos about repairing acer nitro 5, so check it. Maybe to check 5v if you say that usb not working... see https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ruwvhcf0oLw

I saw that too, actually, but it’s not the same problem as mine.

RTX3090 working fine but fans not spinning
        by emil_t
Hello guys. I have a problem with a PNY XLR8 GAMING RTX3090 graphics card. The problem is that it displays and works fine, but the fans don't spin at all. The problem occurred when someone else removed the fans in order to clean it and broke one of the fan connectors. He replaced it himself and after that, it wasn't working anymore. I guess he damaged something else in the process. What i have done so far: I found 2 capacitors next to the connector that were in a bad shape, he must have touched them with his tools - they weren't shorted, but i replaced them with similar ones from a similar card....

        Asus Strix-G15-G513RM fans don't work
        by b-slayer
        Hi everyone,

I have an Asus Strix-G15-G513RM, who starts normally, but as the fans don't work, it stops and is really really hot,
The Bios was the latest one, (327), but I managed to downgrade it to version 325 to see if it changed something,
(as I read somewhere that a corrupted bios can explane my problem), but nothing, it just went full blow during the downgrade,
(so now, i can say that the fans are fonctionnal), but as it restarted, the fans won't turn at all again.

ah, and in the Bios, even when the temperature is really hot, the fan are a 0 rpm,...

Helping troubleshooting PWM control of fans/GPU on HP Omen 16 Gaming Laptop 16-xf0087nr
        by skdsp
        Hello,

I recently repaired a HP Omen 16 laptop that had no power and ended up having a burnt PUU1 (SY8370CTMC) component.

After replacement, the laptop powered on successfully but had issues with the fans where I could only have one plugged in at a time and they would spin maximum speed for a few seconds then turn off with 0V going to the +12V pin.

Each fan will work individually for a few seconds then turn off and I get a BIOS fan error.

I thought I maybe just had bad fans so I proceeded to install Windows and noticed that the discrete GPU (RTX...

EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Rev 0.1 Partially Repaired, Unsure How to Proceed
        by TheNewGP
TL;DR: Bought this card dead. Reflowed a cracked 330 inductor near the PCIe edge which brought it from completely invisible on PCIe to fully enumerating. NVVDD confirmed working at 0.796V, all phases balanced. All measurable external rails are present. But driver initialization fails (RmInitAdapter) across two systems, three slots, six driver versions, and two operating systems. BAR0 register probe shows GFW firmware stalls at phase 3.3 with two distinct groups of internal registers unreachable (all PLLs, all FBPA partitions, FBHUB, SPI flash, fuses, display, several Falcons). Looking for guidance...

Clevo NH55HJQ after botched cooling maintenance GPU not detected, fans go full and latop turn off
        by ktmmotocross
        Hello
Have this Clevo NH55HJQ that after botched cooling maintenance where gpu was not touching cooler i have only 0.3V on main gpu power/other rails ok/ and low rezistance.
Laptop works but after maybe 3 minutes fans go full and after another minute it turns off even in bios. GPU is probably toasted but can it be converted to UMA without that full fans and turning off ?
