MacBook Pro 16" A2485 M1 Max (2021): No internal display - external works fine

    Hi everyone,

I'm troubleshooting a MacBook Pro 16" A2485 M1 Max (Late 2021, board 820-02382) with a completely dead internal display. No image, no backlight. External monitor works perfectly via USB-C or HDMI.

    Symptoms:
    • Internal display detected in System Information (shows as "Built-in Liquid Retina XDR Display")
    • No image (no 100% sure), no backlight (100%)
    Apple Diagnostics codes: VFD001

    Measurements taken:
    • PPBUS_AON_LUXE: 12V (schematic shows 13.1V — running without battery on charger only)
    • PPVOUT_LUXE (CP834): 0V
    • No short to ground on PPVOUT_LUXE
What is the fastest way to determine whether the fault is on the motherboard side vs inside the display assembly?
    1. Is my understanding correct that the absence of PPVOUT_LUXE does not necessarily indicate a motherboard fault, it could also be a protective response to a fault inside the display assembly?
    2. Is there a reliable way to confirm whether the eDP signal is also absent without an oscilloscope? I attempted to see an image with a flashlight but I'm not 100% certain. It appears there is no image either, not just backlight but I want to confirm this before drawing conclusions.
    Thanks!

    Nevermind. It's flexgate issue again.

      M1 MacBook Pro 2021 A2485 - No backlight display
      by rcanpolat
      Hi all,

I recently got my hands on an M1 MacBook Pro (2021, A2485) that I suspect suffered some liquid damage. I have a hot air station and the basic tools to work on the board, but I’m new to SMD repair and would love some guidance before diving in.

Here’s what I’ve observed so far:
      • When I power it on, I hear the MacBook chime and, with a flashlight, I can see the Apple logo on the screen. However, it never completes the boot and eventually powers off. My plan is to try to get the display fully working first, then tackle the boot issue.
      • I did some basic resistor

MacBook Pro 13” 2020 (A2251) WindowServer WATCHDOG crash on wake unless external monitor is connected.
      by ictc
I’m looking for help diagnosing an issue on a MacBook Pro 13" 2020 (MacBookPro16,2, Intel with Iris Plus iGPU).
      Main symptom
Repeated system crashes involving WindowServer (WATCHDOG timeout), typically during the transition from idle/sleep to wake but not necessarily. Also disabling completely the screensavers sometimes occur.

      Behavior details

      - The issue occurs primarily after the system goes idle and is then woken up.
      - Crash logs consistently show:
      - WindowServer unresponsive
      - WATCHDOG timeout
      - “Display...

      MacBook A2485 M1 Max - no sound/video on speakers
      by K MI
      Hi,
I’m troubleshooting a MacBook Pro 16" A2485 (820-02382, M1 Max) on macOS (Tahoe). Headphones work fine (3.5mm jack + Bluetooth), but internal speakers do not work at all.

When I try to play any system sound (e.g. afplay /System/Library/Sounds/Glass.aiff), it fails with:
      AudioQueueStart failed ('what')

Logs from coreaudiod show the Built-In Speaker device trying to start and then failing immediately, e.g.:
BuiltInSpeakerDevice: starting → IOA2UCDevice::StartIO ... Error: 0xE00002E9 → Underlying device failed to start with error: what

Requesting help identifying chip in Macbook Pro A2485
      by Loki_Fido
      Hi ya folks,

I have this MacBook Pro A2485 (M1 Pro 2021) which came in for repair.

It had a shorted SSD power supply chip. Therefore it was stuck at 5V.
I replaced it and the SSD are fine. No more shorts.

But The mac still pulls 5V and 200mA. If i leave it alone for 5 mins, the mac manages to receive 20V and 40mA. Of course, which doesnt mean the mac starts after power meter reading 20V.

But while the mac is stuck at 5V, i checked the board with thermal and found this chip was trying to start. Chip picture is attached.
      Chip marking...

Seeking LCD Schematic for MacBook Pro M1 A2485 - Aiming to Repair, Not Replace
      by spwoof
      Hello everyone,

I'm currently working on a MacBook Pro A2485 and have encountered an issue with the LCD. Instead of opting for a full replacement, I'm interested in performing an in-depth repair on the LCD itself. I'm hoping to find the schematic for the LCD in order to understand its architecture and troubleshoot more effectively.

If anyone has access to the schematic or can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it. My goal is to repair the components and connections within the display, rather than going for a costly replacement. I've been in the notebook...
