dell Inspiron 15 3520 HDL50 LA-L946P does not power on with battery?

Hi,

Dell Inspiron 15 3520 with MB HDL50 LA-L946P that powers on with the ac adapter however does not power on with the battery. The battery is brand new and passes all dell diagnostic test. If the ac adapter is unplugged the unit will power off but displays 100% charge. The unit will not power using the battery. The battery does charge without issues. 😕 any help?

the issue was the dell battery cable. will mark as solved. thanks again for all your help.

Is PD5 TVS ESD diode onboard? Measure the resistance to ground of this SMBUS protection device. No power to the board during these resistance checks.




Review the highlighted parts on your board. Test the diodes in DIODE mode of your meter. No power to the board during these measurements. Be sure the series resistor is ~10R ohms for this VCC power rail to the charger IC.

pin 1 =2.5ohm
pin2 = .0L
pin3 = .0L

black probe on pin 1 and measure pin 2 = 0.311v
black probe on pin 1 and measure pin 3 = 0.311v

black probe on ground red probe on pin 2 = .ol

PRB15 = 10 ohms

Attach the battery. Remove the power adapter. What is the voltage of PRB15 to ground? Test both sides of this resistor.

Measure the voltage to ground of each pin on the battery connector and post the list here.

PRB15 = 00.18v both sides

Pin 1 = 16.65v
Pin 2 = 16.65v
Pin 3 = 16.65v
Pin 4 = 0v
Pin 5 = 0v
Pin 6 = 3.28v
Pin 7 = 0v
Pin 8 = 0v
Pin 9 = 0v
Pin 10 = 0v

when insert the charger pin 4 & 5 = 3.28v which looks good to me however unit still does not power on with the power button. I checked and measure the power key and it is fine.
