    Macbook display shortage in China?

Aftermarket screen prices have jumped for all Apple laptop display assemblies recently. I got something in Chinglish from a supplier on Whatsapp:

Latest news on supply of Macbook screen with top covers

    1. Industry inside news: macbook screen with top covers with logo won't be restocked in the short term. The product selling now are all from the factories existing inventory. No factory will dare to produce new products in the short term. First come, first served.

    2. The supply of Macbook LCD only is normal and will not be affected by this goverment interview (intervention?) Stock for macbook LCD only is sufficient. If you know how to disassemble and assemble top covers, it is good business chance for you.

Anyone know what is happening re the CCP and the factories? Is this some kind of embargo on anything with an Apple logo? Trump related or some deal they've done with Apple to stop them exiting China maybe ;-)

I was paying about $250 AUD for aftermarket 13" displays, now they are like $400 and way fewer stores on Aliexpress selling them.

MacBook Pro 2018 with Activation Lock
    by envym
    Hi everyone!

I have a 2018 MacBook Pro (with Sequoia OS) that I've been using for years with no problem. I recently received an M2 MacBook Pro so I'm mostly using it and not the 2018 one, but since a friend of mine needs a computer, I thought I could restore my 2018 and give it brand-new-like to my friend.

I tried using the built-in tool to restore the MacBook (Settings > General > Transfer or restore > Delete) but it got stuck when trying to remove the Find Device configuration (it asked me for the password for my old Apple ID -now I use the same account but...

    Macbook Pro DFU Restore Issues
    by Flasman90
I have a 2020 Macbook Pro A2289 and after many attempts managed to get it into DFU mode, using my older 2017 A1706 Macbook Pro (Running Ventura 13.7.8). However, when attempting 'Restore', it fails at step 4 of 4, showing the following error:

    - "The operation couldn’t be completed. (AMRestoreErrorDomain error -1 - Failed to handle message type StatusMsg (Generic error)) [AMRestoreErrorDomain – 0xA (10)]
    - "The system cannot be restored on this device. Failed to create new state machine for restore [com.apple.MobileDevice.MobileRestore - 0xFB1 (4017)]

Macbook Air M1 A2337, no charging and then no backlight
    by berlincaps
    Dear BADCAPS Forum,

I am happy to have found this place and would love to get some input on my issues with a MacBook Air M1 (A2337).

A couple of days ago, I was using the MacBook on a low battery, and while running VS Code it shut down due to low battery. I rarely let it reach the point where it turns itself off, and if it does, I usually charge it immediately. This time, however, I left it uncharged until the next evening, and when I plugged it in, nothing happened. I waited until the following day, and still nothing.

I followed all the recommended troubleshooting...

General question about MacBook power rails for repair.
    by SarcasticOP
I am looking at an A2337 and found this for the order of power rails and what they do. Can this be confirmed before I dive into hunting down power rails that do not exist or are not neccisary?
    • PPBUS_G3H (12.6V-12.8V)
      • This is the main power rail that supplies power to the entire system. Check this rail first, as it must be present for other power rails to work.
    • PP3V42_G3H (3.42V)
      • This power rail is derived from PPBUS_G3H and is used to power the SMC (System Management Controller) and other essential circuits. It should be present if PPBUS_G3H is working correctly.
    • PPVRTC_G3H (3.3V)
