    A2338 820-02020 Stuck at 5V, meter resets

The board arrived very clean, with no traces of moisture or corrosion.

Initially, a part of one of the CD3217B12s was heating up, so I purchased a new CD3217B12, which wasn't specified in the purchase announcement as being compatible with the A2338. The short circuit disappeared, but it was still stuck at 5V. So I decided to buy another CD3217B12 specific to my model, but after replacing it, it remained the same.

PPBUS_AON is 12.3V. Before the reset, it drops to 12V, remains there for a few seconds, and then drops until it restarts.

The USB power meter shows a consumption of about 177 mAh, which gradually decreases to zero and then restarts, then restarts again.

Do not have access to my schematics and am out of the office till next week- check if there is a fuse on PPBUS_AON. Flux and remove this fuse. Then power up again. Test if this power rail is still power cycling at the producer side (before the fuse).

Hi, thanks for responding. Yes, I did the fuse removal test a few days ago and the voltage remains constant at 12.3V without resetting.

Measure the resistance to ground of each inductor on the board. You are on the hunt for any power rail that may have a lower than normal resistance that will denote a shorted part on that rail. List all suspects. Downstream power rails are built by using this ppbus_aon rail as the high side of the next lower voltage rail. Each is a suspect.

Hi again, I attach the resistance measurements of all the inductors.

I think the problem may be in the U8100, due to the 22 Ohm resistance of the L8120 inductor.

Pd: I just saw that I put Omhs instead of Ohms in the measurements file

Should I inject 1V and see if any point heats up?

But do you think it's due to the PD negotiation? If that were the case, shouldn't it stay at 5V without restarting in a loop?

Hi, thanks for the info. The difference I see is that in my case, I do have all the voltages. Even so, I've taken measurements of PP3v3_S2 and PP1v25_S2 and got these results:

PP3v3_S2 -> 0.402 (similar to the typical value of ~0.440)
PP1v25_S2 -> 0.275 (far from the typical value of ~0.490, do you think the problem might be here?)

I also injected 1V 1A into L8120 and got a current draw of 0.110A. Do you consider 22 ohms in the inductor to be normal?

Macbook Pro A2338 820-02020 Stuck on RESTORE MODE
                            by lab10.haifa
Good day, friends. Got this problem with M1 macbook - it starts, chimes, tries to boot and stuck with a message "support.apple.com/mac/restore"
It works with DFU mode, but it's cannot be restored. With "revive" function - same problem. Internal restore mode doesn't work, as well as Internet Recovery.
There is no damage on the motherboard. No short circuits.
Could it be a NAND problem? (but usually, if NAND is dead - mac simply wouldn't turn on)
                            Thanks....

board came with liquid damage and prior work on SoC PMU (U8100) with short on PP3v8_AON..
it had corroded caps around U8100, all removed and U8100 replaced successfully.. short removed..

Board is still stuck 5v 0.11 amps.. I have returned all the missing caps around U8100 thinking maybe they're necessary but sadly no fix.

Hi guys i've got an Hp laptop Zbook 17 g5 Stuck on Hp protected by hp sure start screen.
I have tried almost every bios available on various platforms about this laptop but the problem is still the same.
I even successfully build my own bios using the one from the Hp website but the problem the laptop still getting stuck there.
Even if i try to press Esc key nothing happens. I tried f10 it doesn't go to bios still stuck there i just saw entering setup menu on the bottom left corner of the
screen that's it and stuck there. I left it until the following day and i still...

                            Hello,
                            Namaste.

I have a Macbook A2338 that came in for turning on issue. It turned on once when i had it but then again went off. The amp meter but bootloop. The board was clean - no dust - no green .

I performed a DFU Revive. Got the error 4042. Assumed BAD SSD. But it turned on , worked well for 1 day and again went off.

Is it possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue meter?
                            by chth96
I read EBOOK of Testing Electronic Component and found that

"In order to test the small blue resin coated ceramic disk capacitor which has 104 50v specification,it is possible to test this small ceramic capacitor by making use of analogue meter.
Set to times 10Kohm that has 12v output from the probe to check disorder of ceramic capacitor.
It is not uncommon that testing result of digital capacitance meter is okay,But It show shorted reading when you check it with analogue meter."

Is it really possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue...
