    Defective BIOS chip

    Hello everyone.
    I have a problem.
The BIOS chip on my Lenovo Legion 5 17ACH6H appears to be defective. I wanted to read the chip first with the ch431a programmer and then with the t48 and create a dump. However, it always threw an error during verification.
I then bought a new BIOS chip from Aliexpress and loaded an existing dump onto the chip. With the corresponding DMI.
Unfortunately, the laptop now keeps restarting.

My question is, can you simply use the DMI from a foreign dump, or is the motherboard completely lost due to the defective BIOS chip?

lenovos dont need to edit dmi. some chips need better programmer or adapter for 1.8V chips

Make sure you use a compatible 1.8v chip, Winbond W74M12JWSSIQ, W25Q128JW or equivalent
Also try the clean BIOS from post 5 here:

Will show serial/machine type as INVALID but laptop should boot

I wrote exactly this dump to a new chip from Aliexpress using the t48 and soldered it in. W25Q128JW was set in the program, as well as 1.8v.

Which program would be best to use for the chip?

There is a 'Q' in the flash part number so it must support QSPI mode of communication. This is where 4 bits of data are transferred on each clock cycle.

Check if the QSPI bit is enabled on the original and perhaps is not on the replacement.

Could this also be due to the security layer? Or can I check this?

Your programming s/w should offer a 'QE' bit. Review this and check this box or enable with a '1' to enable the QSPI mode. Assuming here that it is necessary. Worth testing.

Unfortunately, reflashing with QE enabled did not help.

If it works you can use this: https://github.com/Shmurkio/LenovoDMIDecryptor
to decrypt the DMI on the working dump, edit your S/N and MTM with hex editor (there's 2 blocks, one is a duplicate, edit both), then encrypt it again

QE bit should be set as the following:
Click image for larger version Name:	w25q128jw.png Views:	0 Size:	64.0 KB ID:	3709147
Also lower the SPI clock frequency to 8MHz if using clip

                    Unfortunately, that didn't work either.
Now the laptop starts up for 1 minute at the beginning and then restarts every 10 seconds.

Every time I try to read the old BIOS chip, I get a verification error. This does not happen with the new chip. Could this be due to security Mayer? Or is the old BIOS chip simply defective?
