Restore solder pads for SMC on MacBook A1466

    Hi all,

i got a A1466 logic board for spare parts but it looks like the SMC ist bad. I got several spares but somehow i was too fast while removing it and ripped some pads off. You can see the damage attached.
Just for experience i would like to restore the lost pads but before i start (haven't done this before) do you have some hints or tutorials how to do it?
As written i want to improve skills so it doesnt matter if it takes longer.

    See attached.

The ones in GREEN - yes, can be fixed.

The ones in RED - no, do not think so but it may not matter. The concern is that there is no solder contacts showing in the pictures. These balls may be NC = no connection balls. Only after you perform the replacement will this be known.

You can try to test whatever is left in the red pad area in DIODE mode. Red probe to GROUND, yes ground. No power to the board. Black probe to the BLACK pad area. If you see a diode measurement then YES, this missing pad was connected to something out there. If OL, the pad was floating and it will not matter. You can still place a solder pad there but is not connected to anything.

To repair this case, study the pad repair kit by Wylie. A few videos on YT.

      Macbook Pro DFU Restore Issues
      by Flasman90
I have a 2020 Macbook Pro A2289 and after many attempts managed to get it into DFU mode, using my older 2017 A1706 Macbook Pro (Running Ventura 13.7.8). However, when attempting 'Restore', it fails at step 4 of 4, showing the following error:

      - "The operation couldn’t be completed. (AMRestoreErrorDomain error -1 - Failed to handle message type StatusMsg (Generic error)) [AMRestoreErrorDomain – 0xA (10)]
      - "The system cannot be restored on this device. Failed to create new state machine for restore [com.apple.MobileDevice.MobileRestore - 0xFB1 (4017)]

Macbook Air A1466 820-3437-B Booting Problem
      by psdavid65
I received a 2013 Macbook Air A1466 820-3437-B motherboard with serial number C02L6GQ9FSV8 that came in WITHOUT a bios chip. I got a new bios chip and reprogrammed it. Macbook now powers on but doesn't boot the SSD. I've flashed a ton of bios but still same problem. Windows installation works with this Macbook but never a mac installation. Unfortunately, since I didn't receive this macbook with a bios chip, I don't have the original bios. What can I do now?...

Macbook A1466 dies when charger disconnected
      by echothegamer
      Hello all,

Working on my wife's 13' Macbook air. It's been in a box since she upgraded but I figured it could be good practice.

      Details:
      Macbook 13' A1466
      Board (820-3209-A)
      Battery OEM 7.3v 50Wh 6700 mAh (020-7379-A)

Pictures below of Boardview and schematic...

I don't know how to test the voltage on a MacBook battery. I just assumed it had an enable pin but the best I could read was 300 something mV poking around the battery connector.

It's an older model and it is very likely that battery has become...

Macbook A1466 820-00165A heavy water damage but working with "flashing" screen
      by dbuergi
      Hi all,

i got a A1466 with serious water damage. I was able to clean the whole board and only found a fuse with a coroded trace. Cleaning and resoldering did the job and the macbook started normal but after some time the screen began "flashing" like turning on and off while the Macbook was still running. I checked the board again but was not able to find the problem until now.
      Any ideas where to look?...

Solder won’t melt on MacBook 2021 logic board – need advice
      by defdjamel
      Hi everyone,
I’m trying to remove a component from a 2021 MacBook logic board, but I’m having trouble.
      https://www.electronicsdatasheets.co...s/tlv70733pdqn
I’m using hot air at 480 °C with full airflow and good flux, but the solder paste is not melting.

I know there’s a lot of thermal dissipation from the board, and I suspect the copper planes are absorbing most of the heat.

Do you have any tips for this kind of board? Would a preheater help?

      Thanks in advance!
