Quality Replacement AC adapters. Are there any left?

I try to order AC Adapter for HP dv5 (dv5-1040ev) from ebay and I am very confused. There are thousands of them and it seems there is no way to distinguish the cheap Chinese stuff from the decent ones..

I found "Genuine HP" chargers too but in the negative vote page there were comments claiming they are fake and go out in sparks immediately when plugged on AC or after some time of use.

Where do you buy laptop adapters at an affordable price? Isn't there any reliable ebay seller you could suggest to me?

ohh those are not fake HP, they are real. i had a real OEM (aka came in the box with the computer) HP charger go up in smoke.

Most adapter are chinese crap.
The cheaper they are the more crap is in them.

They have a 65 and 90 watt
I would recommend : pay a few bucks more and go for the 90w and stick with an original HP model

You still might have to get it from a chinese supplier

I need the 90W model, but they don't state what model is this they are selling. But they clearly state that they don't sell cheap copies... Hm.. I already sent them a message.

check what your original part number is !!! If you do not have the original adapter , the info should be under the battery.

Anything with a pin diameter of 7.45mm*5.0mm and a center pin will work for you (As long as it's the correct voltage). Those two items you linked to are both garbage, one is an outright counterfeit, and the second one is a replacement adapter of very low quality.

Dell PA-10 is an example of a good replacement for you, they both use the same connector. The only difference between Dell and HP adapters is that Dell adapters have some internal logic that communicate with the power circuit, and Dell laptops will not run at full speed unless the logic is present on the third wire (But HP Laptops don't care about the third wire in Dell adapters).

I had an HP dv4 that would not run on a dell PA10 OR PA12
so Unless you have had tried this dell on an actual DV5 and you know that it is definitely compatible, I wouldn't push it

I've had a few i.e. G60 where the Dell charger would light up the DC jack in LED but wouldn't power on without a genuine HP charger.

How can I know if the HP power adapter is genuine?

look for the logo which is usually like in the first and second picture
Also look for the fully spelled out Hewlett Packard name on the adapter somewhere

I found the one in the third picture on ebay-- I think this one might be a fake one and that ad says genuine

OF course , just because a seller has an original in the picture, that does not mean that is what they are selling. Look out for the words compatible and ask them to make sure
