BQ 727 Chip 2.4V at Phase

HI folks 1 question on ablout BQ 727 IC. I believe that it is also meant to charge the battery based on the proximity to the battery pins. I have a strong feeling that the battery is dead but i will look at it later. My question is VCC on BQ is receiving the ADP voltage of 19V. However PHASE and HiDRV on BQ is only pushing out about 2.4V with or without battery attached. That 2.4 V is heading to the gate of the charging mosfet. Source is also pushing out the same 2.4V. Finally the battery voltage pin is receiving 2.2V. Do you see this as a issue or no issue. Battery is likely faulty as well as earlier mentioned.

    1. Why is it pushing out only 2.4V?
    2. What triggers it to push only 2.4V
    3. Where could the problem be?
    4. By adding a working battery, will it alter the Phase and HiDRV voltage?
    5. Does the battery SCK SDA or System present pins play a role in the above issue?

The BQ727 uses N-channel mosfets for the DC-in power path and the battery charge / battery mosfets. Respectively, the gate voltage should be higher than the voltage being passed between source/drain pins to enable the mosfet.

Remove all power. Meter in resistance mode. For each mosfet linked to this charger IC, review the resistance across the mosfet pins.

    Source (1-2-3) & drain (5-6-7-8)
    source (1-2-3) & gate (4)
    gate (4) & drain (5-6-7-8)

Post each measurement. Is there a schematic for your logic board? Which brand? Which model? What are the silk screenings on your logic board? It may not matter but will be helpful.

Focus on the power path mosfets and the battery charge mosfets (high & low side mosfets driven by this charger IC). What is the voltage of REGN to ground? It should be ~6v.

Review the charger circuit sticky above by piernov.

This is a VAUS5 LA9001P Rev 1 board. I managed to find v 0.3 only. But it seems to be very identical.
The drain /source/ gate readings are in 200kohms and above going into Megaohms. I dont think there is any short over there. Correct me if i am wrong as i am a super duper newbie.

      What does silk screening mean?

      Regn to ground is 6V

Silk screen = white text on the logic board such as 'LA-9001P' to identify the board.

A good mosfet will be high hundreds of k ohms on the resistance. At 200k, is of concern. Whichever mosfet reported this measurement, consider to carefully flux and remove the mosfet off the logic board. Protect nearby parts from flying off the board and/or melting.

Once the removed part is cooled, measure it again while it is on your work bench. If still ~200k ohms, replace it. Post the exact measurement of the mosfet that has this relatively low resistance.

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
          by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

Vostro 3400 (LA-K033P) won't charge battery, everything else ok
          by techfreak9356
I bought a Vostro 3400 motherboard (LA-K033P) to upgrade over my damaged Inspiron 5593 (LA-J091P) board. Everything else is ok except for the battery. This battery I am using now is already a replacement one since I disposed of the bloated original one. Back in the Inspiron 5593 motherboard, the battery charges fine and is identified just fine. However, with the upgraded motherboard, suddenly the replacement battery is labeled as "Not a dell battery". When I borrow a similar battery from my colleague (which did not have replacements yet), it is identified and charges just fine.

ISL88739AHRZ ISL88739 Laptop Battery Charger Datasheet
          by Document Archive
The ISL88739 & ISL88739AHRZ are a highly versatile combo battery charger
configurable for operating as either a Hybrid Power Boost (HPB)
charger or a Narrow VDC (NVDC) charger, supporting 2-, 3-, or
4-cell batteries. Both configurations allow the battery to work with
the adapter together to supply the system load when it exceeds
the adapter capability, referred to as system Turbo mode. HPB
charger configuration reverse-boosts battery energy to the system
bus to help the adapter provide the system power in Turbo mode.
          NVDC charger configuration...

Strange battery present behaviour in Lenovo Legion 5-15ARH05 mb model nm-d041
          by ferah831208
Hello guys, i need help with this problem, I have a NM-D041 mobo, it came with low impedance in 3v linear regulator rail, the cause was a damaged EC controller ITE8227e-192. I ordered a new one and replaced it. This laptop have a different chip for keyboard management and it8227e pins for programming ITE chips are not accesible through keyboard interface, I flashed it using i2c interface pins with vertyanov programmer because laptop was dead and SPI flash didn't have power (only 3v EC) so it couldn't access firmware stored in SPI memory. I read SPI and extracted it8227 firmware from original BIOS...

HP ELITE X2 1013 G3 weird battery issue
          by huzo
Hi, so the old battery was getting error stated it's capacity is starting too get low and should be replaced, so the customer bought a new one and replaced it, but the new battery was also getting this notice that it's capacity is getting low and should be replaced, so i took the laptop for testing and the battery is charging at the terminal at 8.03V , the voltage of the battery is 7.7V, and drawing around 600mA when charger is put and the laptop is off...so that should be ok... but the bios system test doesn't recognize the battery and can't do the battery test and so is the hp battery manager,...
