MBP A1989 Touch Bar sometime sluggish touch response

Had flickering touch bar display. Replaced. Now have an intermittent touch reponsiveness. It generally works but sometimes a press would not respond and need to touch again... sometimes more than 1-2x. Generally happens when trying to go faster on the touch bar and seem more common in certain regions on the bar.

Closer inspection reveal L5100 (touch sensor power rail coil) had overheated in the past. Perhaps it can't supply voltage or current properly. Don't have component available so thinking just replace with 0.1mm wire. Touchbar works now but touchbar just have some sluggishness here and there from unregistered touches. Thought I double check before taking the risk of changing L5100 for a wire and making it worse.

    Thoughts?

    UPDATE FIXED
    • Measured the inductor and had like 170ohms across it so clearly seen better days.
    • While removing the inductor, the melted mess pull off the power rail pads (PP5V_G3S) and the filter cap just below it.
    • ~15-20mm Jumper to same rail on 2 caps on other side of board
Touch is now perfectly responsive on the touch bar.

      good job.
I had a similar issue with a camera inductor on an A2338 recently. Still had continuity but wasn't passing the full 5v through.
That U5100 is available on some other boards too, as revealed by inflex FlexBoardView software

Nice search tip! Didn't have any MB donor boards. Looked on A1474 iPad dead logic board and didn't find matching spec.

If you search for a part in FBV it will go through all your boardview/schematic files in the FBV directory and tell you if that part is available on any set of files in that directory.
So Macbooks, iPads or Apple phones. It really is an invaluable feature IMO. Thanks inflex
