Good morning all, I am back to the issue. I will replace the MB as it si quite chip. Before buying I need to be sure about MB model. The laptop is a X240 i5. As the laptop is not working I can get additional information about i version of CPU. The market offers several models and I found an i5 4th. I am not sure about "i" generation...how can i solve this doubt?

Ok. You probably need to open the laptop to get a more clear symptom/sign of failure.
Like a (partial) shorted power rail for example.

socket 1: data pins, diode mode, 808 - power pins, ohm meter OL;
socket 2: data pins, diode mode, 268 - power pins, ohm meter OL.
I tink I did it correctly.

When switch to Ohms mode, range 200 and measure the outer pins. One is supposed to be GND, one is supposed to be the 5V rail. Red probe to the pins, black probe to GND.

Edit: But seriously, i don't have much hope for your device.
data pins: both USB pins give ohm reading 270 and 830 ohm
power pins: both power pins give OL.

Hi all, due to a mistake a friend connected a wrong USB pin to the laptop. The laptop immediately stopped running and never get back to normal functioning.
If I connect to the power supply the only sign that I have is three blink forn the power button and in accordance with user manual this only means that a power supply has been connected. With battery no signs at all. My understanding is some hw problem to the mb. The laptop is an old one but still working so I wonder if it is worth to repair or buy a new mb for 25/30 USD. Does anybody have suggestions what to to or check before throwing into the garbage bin?Tags: None
