Dead wireless on HP Pavilion G6-1325ea

Hi all

Have a problem with a HP Pavilion G6-1325ea just over a year old and just out of warranty (of course). The wireless has suddenly died and all traces of the wireless card have disappeared in windows as if the hardware doesn't exist. Checked that it is definitely not an OS problem and ruled out the wireless mini pci card which is working in another laptop. No bent pins or dirty sockets etc. Upon investigating the mini pci slot you can hear a little tone changing pitch. I have run through the area and checked all the caps they are reading a correct voltage not sure what else to look for. I have repaired some bad caps in the past but I definitely would brand myself as an amateur so not sure what else to check. Would appreciate any ideas you guys may have?

I will ask the first question - have you checked you have not
inadvertantly switched the wireless off?

Haha yes first thing i checked. The card is not in device manager and the wireless activation switch is refusing to budge because as far as its concerned there is no wireless card in the laptop. have booted into other live OS's and it is the same story. Definitely not a software issue IMO.

try with another working card or tape one of the pins that was used to sense the wireless ON /OFF switch... I had seen alot of buttons / slide switches... died..

Check the button/slide first. IIRC there should also be a 3.3V Aux voltage on one of the card connector pins.

Checked for the BIOS wireless on setting? Easy to overlook.

try with another wifi card, I m sure your wifi card is ok but needs to be changed.

on hp before post it say that its not compatible

so try to swap until you see some messages
