So, I bought a thinkpad t41 on ebay for 10 bucks the other day (Intel pentium M 1.6ghz, 1.5 gb ram, radeon mobility 7500) and did not expect much, fortunately, it was in really good condition despite looking a bit nasty. Even the battery holds a charge, 1 hour on battery! Not bad! Screen first starts up red and fades into full color, and it's missing a key, but fine otherwise.
Now the issue; sometimes, when started up or coming out of standby, the inverter will fire on the ccfl tube, flash, and power off. Other times, the inverter will fire on the tube, and sustain on. Completely normal.
It appears it has better luck starting the tube in high performance mode (plugged in) rather than battery saver mode. I'm thinking the tube is simply getting old, and more difficult for the inverter to fire. I am also aware of the thinkpad T series motherboard issues, this system, however, was refurbished, and I believe possibly reflowed, as it has service tags and a *new* battery, and upgraded ram.
Any suggestions welcome!
