    Acer 5536 issue?

Got an Acer 5536 in part exchange the other day, just got round to looking at it.

Turn it on and you get a power light but no boot, but leave it on for ten minutes and restart it and it will load up Windows and function perfectly!

I assume this is a standard GPU issue and needs to be reflowed? (I don't bother reflowing personally as it's not a permanent fix, but nice to know the board is scrap..)

      Re: Acer 5536 issue?

Usually I dismiss these, but I've had an Acer 5552 here for ages with the same symptoms, and out of curiousity I turned it on and left it for ten minutes.. Hey presto, it POST'ed.

Guess now I have some research on reflowing to do.

if you put it like that then you must start with baking in oven MOTHERBOARD
Just cook it! It's already broken.

I know that much - have done that on PS3's successfully.

My problem with reflowing is first and foremost.. reliability. My concern is always how permanent the fix will be.

            it depends!
using a oven to reflow has its ups and down!
if you got a problem like cold solder on a component that could take 2-5 days to find if your new in finding voltage in motherboard ; oven will remake that solder(seen that thing happen)
down side is the board its full with caps or if the BGA got a bridge with the balls then this type of reflow will make it worst.
AND yes if the chips its from that year with bad production no matter what reball reflow it will fail.

if you use baking use cooper plate. thermal compound both sides
Just cook it! It's already broken.

Acer Helios 500 (PH517-51) - unexpected reboots when laptop is warm (cold solder joint issue?)
              by Mirenia
              Hi everyone,

got an Acer Helios 500 Laptop (PH517-51) for diagnosing with a strange issue:

The laptop runs for a while (1-2 hours, sometimes less) and then suddenly shuts completely off, like someone pulled the power cord and restarts immediately after on its own.
If this happened once, then the laptop only runs for a few minutes until restart.
This happens regardless while staying in windows or uefi or in a linux environment.

At first I thought of a normal overheating issue, but as I monitored temps with HWInfo64, nothing seems very hot.
