    HP 15-cs3055wm - DAG7BLMB8DQ REV:D - Missing Components - Fan Error

    Hello,

I have an HP laptop here (model and board model in title) that powers on with an error message about the fan not working properly and needs to shutdown. The thing is, the fan is spinning just fine. I disregarded the message and continued to boot into Windows and loaded up OCCT to look at temperatures and the OCCT was reporting that the CPU was very hot (98C) and climbing, so I shutdown the computer, did a CMOS reset and checked then thermal paste and heatsink for dust build-up. Paste looked good, but I cleaned it off and applied fresh paste anyway and blew out the fan from dust and checked the temps again, and OCCT still reported the CPU at upper 90C when it was just idle, so I shut it down again and started started looking at the board. There appear to be 3 components that are missing from the motherboard and I am not sure what they are because I have not found a schematic for this model and I am not sure which model would be close enough that I could use to figure out what these missing components are. I have highlighted them in red. You can tell a component was there because you can see the outline of it in the solder blob that's left on the pad. I'm assuming it's probably 2 capacitors near the MOSFETs and maybe a resistor near the fan connector but I am not sure and definitely wouldn't know their values.

Any idea how I can go about figuring out what these are or does anyone know which model has similar schematics I can use to determine the components myself? Thanks

From another logic board - the fan connector pinout may be similar. Check the voltage to ground on the 2 pads. One is pin # 2 on the fan connector. Is the other side of this missing component @ 3v3 ? If yes, then the missing component is a 4k7 resistor which looks to be either 0402 or 0603 in SMD size.

Thanks for the help mon2. Pulled a 4.7k resistor from another board and soldered it in place. Fan error stopped now. Thanks again.
