Advice / Help with Dell Inspiron P59G001 with burnt chip (PU5101)

    Hello All,

This is my first post here, I have worked in IT all my life however my knowledge when it comes to component level motherboard repair is extremely limited. That being said I have been attempting to learn more in this area. This laptop in question had liquid spilled on it a couple years back. No repair attempt was made at that time.

Upon plugging the laptop in and attempting to power it does not do anything besides show a white status light on the front that blinks on and off continuously. I then proceeded to remove the board from the laptop and inspected further. Upon inspection a burnt chip was noticed. On the boardview this chip is named PU5101.

    See the attached photo's.

Taking all this info into account how likely is it that this fault can be fixed and what would be my next best steps in order to attempt this repair. I should mention that while my component / electrical knowledge is not great, I am fully capable and also have all the required tools to perform the micro soldering or other work on the PCB required.

Without any guidance my first thought would be to remove the burnt component, clean the area in question using isopropyl and then assuming that I can source this chip or find an identical one from a dead board replace it, and then test.

Thanks for any help or guidance in aadvance!!!

      Hello to both of you.

      1) No one replied to this thread? It appears this is a laptop so this thread was started in the wrong section of the forum. This thread should be posted in the laptop section.

      2) Post all silk screen markings of your logic board. This will help us all to locate the details PU5101. Also helpful will be all remaining markings of this IC. Appears to be Richtek but need full details you can offer.

Update: Found PU5101 in one of the Dell schematics. Just review only. Your IC onboard appears to be from SILERGY - not Richtek.

Do share more markings from your board. Use the details below only for reference as it may not match your PCB layout!!
