    Toshiba not detecting any hard drives

    Hello all

    I have this Toshiba Mini that is not detecting its hard drive, I put a new one and is not detecting it either, another symptom it's having, it's taking 5 minutes to POST (froze up at Toshiba's logo).

    It only gets stuck for a moment when there is a hard drive plugged, it boots fast (normal) with nothing in its SATA port.

      Never heard of that before. Have you tried restore bios factory settings? What's the laptop's history? And bent pins on the sata connection?

      Try connect the hdd to an USB enclosure and see if all is well.

        Havent had that before either.. Sounds like the problem is not with either hard drive, but with something else... possibly motherboard / hard drive controller / BIOS. Have you checked the BIOS settings to see what the hard drive controllers are set to do, and if the hard drive is listed in the BIOS correctly?

          i dont know what is your mobo model name or code, but it seems like a south bridge problem. Have to check from schematics, to know which is responsible from sata port.

            Yeah, to confirm, the SATA pins are not bent, I cut off CMOS battery and let it idled for a while to reset BIOS settings.

            I do think it's the southbridge problem by looking at the schematic, it's the next thing that goes after the SATA port.

            It's a Intel® NM10 Express Chipset (Intel® CG82NM10 PCH), going to have to look and see if I have one laying around.

            Here's the schematic if someone wants to have a look.

              Heat nm10 gently and do a light reflow with using a good flux.

                Did reflow with Amtech 4300, same problem, customer is willing to replace motherboard. Thanks for your help.
