FSC Amilo LI 3910 no backlight

I'd like some help in diagnosing this laptop here. The display gives picture but the backlight works only sometimes, mostly it doesn't. When it works the picture is clear and bright. I'm not sure if it's the ccfl, inverter or the mainboard that's faulty. The machine is 4 years old and it's actually rarely used.
Measuring the inverter's input cord shows 10.6-11.2V 2.5V 3V GND. Interestingly there is a clean 12V supply voltage form the motherboard. Checking the wires continuity shows that the flat wire that comes from the motherboard and the other that goes to the inverter are not connected (no resistance measured).
I have some experience with laptop displays and it would be really embarassing to get the wrong replacement part for this one.

Measured voltages looks ok. Try known good inverter and a screen to find which is faulty. Probably, problem is ccfl. it is bad or, corrupted cable soldering.

If the ccfls are faulty then I'll just pass. Those are built into the display panell and cannot be swapped. l'll get some working ccfl and test the inverter to see what happens.

Are you sure you cant take the panel apart to replace the ccfl lamps?

Well, as I see the frame assembly is welded together and filled with some hard glue or resin around the ccfls. No screws, clips or anything.
