    Super I/O chip, on/off pins

One day while poking my probes around on a laptop's super i/o chip I discovered i can turn the laptop on/off by shorting the right pins. My question here is can this be done with every super i/o chip one every laptop?

Another question: Can this be done the same way with desktop motherboards also?

Re: Super I/O chip, on/off pins

Hello, the i/o chip offers different levels of power on, lets say power states, you can see this from the schematic, the s3, s4, s5 which will give power to certain ic`s. the s5 is the full power on, the other ones can be charging, standby and some other functions. By injecting 3.3v to the right pin of the i/o ic you activate the different levels, check the schematics für the right pins. But if the bios is damaged, even if you inject the voltage the screen will not come. Lets say you activate the s5 level and all voltages to all ic`s are there, if the bios or the i/o ic still has a problem, picture will not come.

      shorting the right pins.
How to know the right pins?
can this be done with every super i/o chip one every laptop?
It is very difficult to say, there are so many different laptop.

Many chipsets have General Purpois Input/Output (GPIO) pins, of which use is at the discretion of the motherboard manufacturer.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

Yes you can. Just check the schematic, your on/off button connected directly to the io chip.

You can turn on the computer at the keyboard connector usually first 2 pins from the right side.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8q4eEcKRDU

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
              by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

ASRock B650M PRO RS - BIOS CHIP 25Q256JW BLOCKED BY STATUS REGISTERS
              by DynaxSC
              Hi

I have a very strange issue with the BIOS SPI chip of an ASRock B650M PRO RS motherboard.
The SPI chip is an Winbond 25Q256JWEQ model (1V8).
The motherbaord doas not POST - it lits only CPU and DRAM EZ Debug Leds, and stays that way forever.
The Flashback function of the motherbaord is also not working, despite all instructions followed correctly - I'm 100% sure of this.

I have then desoldered the chip, backupped the contents, and tried to earease the chip in order to program stock image, but the chip is locked by status registers SREG2 (TB) and SREG6...

Asus ROG Ally - Super IO Chip replacement
              by ongobongo
              Hello everyone,
anyone here who has experience with replacing the super IO chip of an ROG ally?
I have one on my bench which has a burnt super io (ITE 5125VG-192). On some devices the super-io downloads it's firmware from BIOS if it's empty. As i don't have a programmer for this chips i hope someone here has already changed the chip and can give me a hint if it's working with an empty chip if it needs external programming.
              Thanks
              Ongo

              Preflash Super IO chip
              by chickenhawk88
I was wondering if you guys know anyone that sells Super IO chip ITE IT8390-256 flashed with your specific laptop. Im debating to see if this available out there vs buying chip and programmer myself. Right now the chip plus programmer is about $60. But i still need the file that goes on chip. The laptop is RAZER BLADE 15 RZ09-0369.

Hello everybody, i am diagnosing a hp omen 15-dh0007ng motherboard with no power. After a bit messuring I found out that the 3v rail is missing. Looking after that I found a short on a cap on an step down regulator ic. After removing the cap the short was still there. I also removed the ic looking if maybe this is internally shorted. The short remained still there. After that I tried to inject voltage 3.0v on the 3v rail and I found through thermal camera the super iO chip heating up. It had a current draw of about 0.7A. Now I want to replace the super iO chip but I found out that they contain...
