    What is this electronic component?

    Can you please help me identify this electronic part?

      Actually, as it says there on the board "PD", I would say both are some sort of power diodes.
      The one on the left could be this one:

      FAIRCHILD SEMICONDUCTOR - SS34 - DIODE, SCHOTTKY, 3A, SMD, DO-214

        Re: What is this electronic component?

        It looks like every component designator (R = resistor, C = capacitor etc.) is preceded by a 'P' for some reason.
        Just noticed the one on the left, I imagine that will be a diode.

        Maybe the 'P' is for Power board...

          uhm interesting.

          Now, Am wondering if a bad capacitor could be causing the power to continuously recycle -causing a strange humming sound. It is a very low humming sound however.

          thank you for your help thus far.

            I doubt the P signifies 'power Cap', 'Power resistor' etc. - look at that tiny resistor on the left, no way is that a power component.

                Re: What is this electronic component?

                The board is from a laptop that gets power from an ac adapter which may explain why those resistors aren't very big? lol Am not a genius at electronics.

                  Other than "p" stands for power, I have no other clue what it might stand for lol.

                    Well, it is pretty convincing I mean. The "P" only show up near the battery area and the ac adapter socket area.

                      That, if I'm not mistaken (At least the one on the right), is a tantalum capacitor.

Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

                        Ok very nice. Now does anyone know how to read the codes on the capacitor that tell you what the ratings are? I might think about replacing them

                          Can you take a caliper and measure them?

                            Caliper? sounds high tech. I don't really have a caliper but i think i can measure it in mm with an ordinary ruler. It is 8x5 mm.

                              So I'm looking at the two big ones on the right-hand side, the ones with the markings:
                              330 6DS7 D...

                              I looked at a few pictures from various manufacturers, I just can't find anything. I'll try to keep looking. Where did this come out of?

                                Obviously,

                                PQ= Capacitor &
                                PD= Diod.

                                      It looks like a Tantalum cap to me as well. Best solution is to check it with a multimeter out of the circuit - if it shows open circuit both ways when you measure it for continuity, then it's more than likely a capacitor. If it shows a [continuous] reading one way but not the other, then it's a diode. If it shows short circuit regardless of which way you test it, it's obviously a bad component.

                                      Also, Tantalum caps usually commit a pretty nasty suicide when they go bad (i.e. they burn out - literally), so if it's a Tantalum, it's unlikely to be bad if it reads normal.

                                      With that said, I would suggest you check the rest of the components in the charging circuit - particularly power rails being shorted to ground. The buzzing could be because there is an overload in the charging/power circuit somewhere.

                                      PQ is for transistor. Just ignore the "P" prefix and you can see that this board has standard marking. C = capacitor, D = diode, R = resistor, Q = transistor, L = inductor.
