Inspiron 3421 - No power unless...

It doesn't turn on, but after removing the BIOS battery a few seconds, reinserting it and plugging the charger, it comes on and boots perfectly. When turned off (via "Turn off" option because power button doesn't register, but the switch itself works), it can't be turned on again unless the procedure is repeated. Any clues?

Review the dual diode @ D6001.

Remove all power. Meter in DIODE mode.

Red meter probe on pin #2. Black meter probe on pin # 3. Should conduct.

Reverse the meter leads, the meter should be in OL (block mode).

Repeat for pins # 1 and # 3. Same readings if all is ok.

If this part is defective, the diode will conduct in both orientations of the meter probes. Then it should be replaced.

Measured D6001 as described and it is OK.

Test with a fresh known good RTC (clock) battery.

          RTCRST#
          SRTCRST#

Measure and report back. Measurements should be done with 3.3V cmos cell inserted and no power attached.

            Yes, fresh battery.
            RTC_RST# and SRTC_RST# are both at 3.18V.
