    Dell 400 won't start.

Older system, not used since trouble started 2 yrs ago. PC unable to find mouse or keyboard (POST error) . They are the USB type. Unit worked for 3 years then suddenly wouldn't start normally loading WIndows XPS. Anybody out there lose a PC cause the USB ports failed?

I recently found this great site! Maybe there is an answer. All the PC types I know say get a new mother board.

Any ideas re: bad caps? I plan to visually check all the caps. Mother board has the P/N CN-OYCS523-70821-59F-GOQD Rev A00

    Thanks,

    Ed

usually laptops use surface mount caps, so you'll have a problem looking for bad caps unless their burnt.

This Dell 400 is actually a Dell Dimension 400/9150, desk top style.

Today I start texamining the MB for deformed or burned capacitors.
