Thinkpad Yoga X380 with melody at boot

Hi. I bought a faulty thinkpad X380 yoga to see if I can fix it, if possible without changing the motherboard. When it boots the keyboard lights up and a beep melody sounds, black screen and it doesn't go from there.

According to the Lenovo acoustic identification app, the error is:

0285: TCG-compliant functionality-related error (might be the TPM initialization failure)

Is there any possibility to recover it, buying some flash programmer?

Re: Thinkpad Yoga X380 with melody at boot

I'm thinking of buying a CH341A kit. I have been reading several threads in this forum on how to remove passwords from the bios. However, that is not my case.

The error that it gives I have seen that it is usually related to bios problems, after bad upgrade or similar.

Do you think that there is any possibility that following the procedure of removing the password the mainboard can be recovered?

By removing the password from the firmware? No. By flashing a known good Main BIOS firmware: Maybe

But from what I've been reading about password wipes, isn't the original board bios specific to that particular board?(*), with specific TPM encryptions?

Where can I download a generic bios dump for this mainboard?

(*) Remove password protocol. 1.Dump original bios (not another one). 2 patch it. 3. Download patched bios, and instructions to initialize it. 4. Restore original bios.

There`s an X380 password thread in the "Bios requests ONLY!" sub forum here -> https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...highlight=X380 .Post your bios backup in that thread if you can`t get the Autopatcher to work , see post #87 .

Re: Thinkpad Yoga X380 with melody at boot

            Hi again.

            Finally I have CH431A.

I have a X380 yoga mainboard. I don't know if it is password locked. It starts, nothing in display and then it sounds a melody.

I have followed the procedure of patching the bios.

            https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=87588

Surprisingly, mainboard works with patched bios, no melody, lenovo logo appears and I have followed the procedure:
            ...
STEP 6: Press space bar 2x when asked
            STEP 7: Turn off machine
            STEP 8: Restore original BIOS

But, after i restored the original bios, again nothing in display and a melody.
What can I do? Is the original bios corrupt? If so, why does the patching work? can I download a standard one, where can I get it? And what about the CRC?

Re: Thinkpad Yoga X380 with melody at boot

Finally I downloaded to BIOS a image published in this forum for X380 Yoga.

              It works!!!

However, something annoying happens. The laptop takes 30 seconds, with a black screen, until it starts to boot and the Lenovo logo appears on screen. It also takes 15 seconds to resume from suspend.

I have been upgrading and downgrading several bios versions through lenovo repository. I have reset the bios to default, I have tried changing many parameters (quick boot, lan boot,...). I have done all the diagnostic tests on the board and it passes fine.

but the laptop still takes 30 seconds to see something in screen.

Any idea about what could be the problem?

Re: Thinkpad Yoga X380 with melody at boot

Maybe the problem (Long time to boot until seeing the Lenovo logo) is related to this that I have discovered.

ME (Intel Management Engine) firmware is missing in the BIOS

This is a normal X380 yoga bios for comparison

I have tried to install ME Firmware from Lenovo in windows but it gives this error:

Error 8193: Fail to load MEI device driver (PCI access for Windows)
Above error is often caused by one of below reasons:
Administrator privilege needed for running the tool
ME is in an error state causing MEI driver fail
                MEI driver is not installed

                And getting info with MEInfoWin64.exe

                Intel(R) MEInfo Version: 11.8.83.3874
                Copyright(C) 2005 - 2020, Intel Corporation. All rights reserved.

Error 86: Communication error between application and Intel(R) ME module (FWU client)

Error 81: Internal error (Could not determine FW features information)

Could this have anything to do with flashing the BIOS?

Also I am reporting to this thread: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...ht=X380&page=5

It needs a "Clean ME" in addition. Nothing more

I have been reading more on the subject. A couple of questions:

                    1. Can I get a BIOS image of the X380 yoga somewhere with the ME already clean?

                    2. would it be possible to transfer this image to the BIOS from the operating system? That is, without having to open the laptop again and flash it.

Re: Thinkpad Yoga X380 with melody at boot

I cannot generate a image with cleaned ME.

                      MEAnalyzer says:

                      Family CSE ME
                      Version 11.8.55.3510

I have found these two possible ME firmwares from Intel:

                      11.8.55.3510_COR_LP_C_NPDM_PRD_RGN
                      11.8.55.3510_COR_LP_C_YPDM_PRD_RGN

I am using Intel Flash Image Tool version 11.8.86.3877

I generate a new image following instructions on

                      https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...41&postcount=3

But when I check with MEAnalyze outimage.bin:

it Says Type Extracted and Initialized. I was expecting for type Stock.

Finally, I flashed a BIOS image prepared for me in this thread, and it works well.
