I would like to ask for some help regarding the motherboard in the title.
My friend asked me, if it is possible, save it from the dumpster.
His story: during regular fan cleaning, he saw some smoke emerging from the motherboard, near the RAM section. He says there was no obvious reason for that (no screw fell into the board, etc.).
Facts:
-board does not power on
-applying 20V from current limited power supply, all VSUS (standby) voltages are present, except one: 1.05VSUS, page 48 in PDF
-removing JP8201 and JP8203 1.05V is present on U8200 DC-DC converter output (removed the jumper solder blobs because U8200 had all inputs and signals to start)
-other side of JP8203 shows direct short to ground (0.08ohms)
-tried to inject 1V into this shorted section, but nothing got warm even at 6 amperes (this is the max for my supply)
Please help me in further troubleshooting. I had to attach the schematic and boardview as external links, because they are too big for the site uploader.
Also, I could only download the boardview in PDF, and it looks very broken in Acrobat viewer - is there an other way of opening it, because in this state it does not help much.
