I have a Sony PS3 model#CECH-2101B that turns on normal(green)light, for 4 seconds, then turns red flashing light. It seems to be typical GPU failure, due to bad solder. Looking for someone who has experience reballing the GPU, and CPU, with leaded silver solder. Any Help would be appreciated. Not looking for temporary Youtube fix.

Re: PS3 Red light of death
ps3's dont fail because of leadfree solder, they fail because of poor thermal transfer between the chip's and the heatsink and the fan running too slow.
i'll tell you now, whatever you do with the soldering, if you dont remove the metal covers from the chips and re-grease them with AS5 or similar silver paste and then run a file manager with a fanspeed mod in it, it will fail again.
the xbox360 is no different, thermal problems make them fail, but in the 360 it's because the heatsink is too small and stuck under the dvd drive.
and now the new xbox-one's are starting to fail - i dont know the details yet, but i bet it's bad thermal management again.Comment

Re: PS3 Red light of death
I reball chips and most times when I lift them there are a few balls in the corners that never flowed onto the pads on the chip. I have never seen a reflow last reliably so I don't even offer that as a service, though at times I do use that method to locate the fault then reball that chip. I have also come across many consoles (and laptops) that the chip itself it at fault and the heat temporarily allows the chip to function (though most of these have had unprofessional repairs attempted).
I have never done any fan mods and I have consoles still running years later.
I do agree though that the heat spreaders must be removed from the chips to replace the thermal paste under them as it is no longer doing its job.Comment

Re: PS3 Red light of death
What do you charge for a reball of the GPU. STJ can you elaborate more on that file manager mod for fan speed. Where do you get that, and what is it? Thanks for all your help and time, GeorgeComment

Re: PS3 Red light of death
assuming your console is running custom firmware, it's built into most modern file managers like webman.
if your not running custom firmware then i'm shocked - being able to put all your games on a harddrive and load them from a menu is the only way to go.

by sam_sam_samI have had these 70 watt high pressure sodium yard lights for many years now probably at least 15 years or more and there is a protection diode that after several years starts to go bad and when it does this it has momentarily shutting down the light and then a few minutes later it starts working again
This about the forth time I have fixed this one and you can tell if it the diode or not if it lights up and it only shuts down when the air conditioner turns on then it is the diode
If it cycling on and off constantly then it is the bulb itself that is the issue

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....-

by Rav_tangleHi all , thanks for having me & I think this has been asked before but my case seems a bit odd.
I have a MacBook Pro , board 820-2915a and it turns on , chimes etc etc , keyboard lights up, fans spins , can turn caps lock on/off but screen is dead.
Iv tried the resets , shine torch through back logo , nothing , it seems the screen has no power. If I plug charger , it charges but if I disconnect battery it displays green light but won't turn on. Iv tried screen on with another board & it works & seems I'm not getting any voltage at pin 2 , next to ground pin .

Hello everyone. I have a problem with an HP laptop, when connecting the charger the amber light comes on for 6 seconds, changes to white and does not charge, I have checked all the components with the multimeter and the values seem correct, I was guided by the diagram, I do not know if it is a problem with the BQ24728H charge controller, investigating it seems that the voltages given by the charge controller are correct, I made the measurements connected to the power source and without the battery:
- ACN (BQACN) 19.6v
- ACP (BQACP) 19.6v
- CMSRC (BQCMSRC) 19.6v
- ACDRV... - Loading...
