Hi, we have a number of Streamax X5-E0804 vehicle CCTV recorders that are dead - they all have a power supply PCB with 5 10F 2.7v super capacitors which have leaked and buckled, but replacing them doesn't fix the fault. Digging deeper it seems that there short circuit somewhere, but so far I have been unable to locate the faulty component. its a long shot but has anyone come across these DVR's or better still have a schematic?

thats very clean - anoyingly.
it looks like you struggled slightly with the new soldering - big groundplane or something.
check the new caps arent shorted,
then see if they are in parallel - hopefully they are because it simplifies things.
and see what they connect to - incase they used a resistor as a fuse.

I see on the back side MLCC caps that are in parallel. It's going to be a pain to find the short, but if it ends up being in the parallel MLCC grouped.capacitor, exchange the whole group and not just one. Also measure these MLCC while taken out on the Ohms scale and you can find out which ones are gonna short next,
I am not saying the problem is this, but could be. I suggest you find out on where the short is, then start depopulating. Oh yes… and don't forget to take some pictures…
